Used to be the radio guys knew the English language and could annunciate properly.

Deuce says game brought to you by "Butt Light", receiver went to the "sight lines", ball carrier brought down at the 2 "yart" line, and my favorite is Dan Arnold playing "White Out".

He’s probably drunk. It’s preseason.

Because Buddy D, Hokie, and Bobby all show(ed) mastery of the English language...

I want local flair when listening to local broadcast

I mean, WWL has previously featured Buddy D, Deke and Bobby, so at this point it’s a tradition if not a requirement.

I love the occasional use of Ebonics as much as the next guy, but come on Deuce

Kind of like the English teacher on this seasons Last Chance U. Don’t let your use of made up words interfere with your profession

A lot of these athletes have speech problems, it's not their fault or anything that they deliberately do this shite, it's just who they are as people. I remember a great NFL player for the Redskins, I think it was Dexter Manley just had the worst speech impediment. Poor guy tried to stir away from the pain in the arse reporters who were always looking to get an interview with him for a story, but they always managed to go get him. lol I felt bad for him, I think Lester Hayes for the Raiders was another. A lot of these guys are great ball players and nothing more, that's what they were meant to be. People need to quit treating them like they're this really intelligent, articulate spokespersons, and judging them on this because it's not fair to them they're just athletes not rocket scientists. But they are a lot of people in this world that are this way, they just don't have these very high-profile jobs where they have to always be in front of cameras to fend for themselves.

Very good take. There are a bunch of pro athletes with speech impediments, and some of them openly admit to turning to contact sports as a way to channel their anger from being bullied at an early age. Those are usually some of the nicest guys off the field too. Mike Tyson might be the exception.

Go visit where Deuce is originally from, speak with the local folks, and you’ll admire how little of an accent he presently has.

Is his elocution perfect as to standard American English?

Naw main, but it’s certainly better than most of his childhood cohorts’ speech.

Deuce isn’t the most polished guy on the radio, but the man knows his shite and that outweighs the negatives.

Zach on the other hand..... eesh

Where in any way did the OP say anything about race?

Here’s the thing. Lots of black people butcher the English language, as do a lot of white people. It’s not racist to call it out when it’s a black person unless you’re the kind of person that thinks black people are incapable of speaking properly so nobody can call it out. That is what’s really racist. It’s the soft bigotry of low expectations.
