To argue that RB isn't an important position is just idiotic. Maybe teams won the superbowl in spite of their deficiencies at the running back position, however running back is still an important position. To say that the position is worthless is a pointless conversation.

slow, slow down a bit. you don't know what the front office has planned for the rest of this draft, or throughout the offseason. Its a long way to the 2012 draft, and for all you know, we might end up with a different first round pick next year

Ingram is slated to make a THIRD LESS than Pierre Thomas is going to make on the contract he just signed coming off a microfracture surgery (or is it Lis Franc).

Which means that we're going to invest LESS money & drafted the best tailback in the draft, bar none.

But somehow, SlowFlowPro doesn't agree? Tell him to STFU. He knows not of what he speaks. He didn't research one bit before spouting off.

Imagine that.

they could have last year, and didn't

Probably because they were coming off a 2,000+ yard rushing season. I doubt they anticipated a 700 yard drop off.

We should go after Tiki Barber. He's 36 and cheap.

SFP are you seriously trying to argue this move?

The NE patriots keep stockpiling picks in an attempt to be smart.........proving themselves to be some sort of fricking draft genie

i agree with this. i called it earlier in the night

they ALWAYS have a ton of picks and they only have this b/c they ALWAYS trade for future picks. i'm still waiting for that super draft one year

this was a great trade if you are about seizing the moment.

i think we could get his production, immediate or otherwise, for less. that's all

i didn't say it wasn't important

i said it lacked value

RBs just aren't worth a lot, b/c there are a whole lot of them in the NFL

let me put it another way. think about the veteran, proven back we could have gotten by trading a 1st round pick

the past 2 super bowl champs had shite for RB

it may be 3...wasn't FWP starting for the steelers too?

so the saints have now drafted 2 1st round rb's, the steelers drafted mendenhall in the first also. colts drafted both of their rb's int he first.

who else?

I 100% agree with SFP. The OL has more to do with running efficiency than the RB does, not to mention they have a frickload to do with how the passing game does. It's just such an inefficient way to run a football team that has a lot of key FAs coming up to invest so much into the easiest position to fill on the field. If they say goodbye to PT and Bush, then it's OK, even if they use a 3rd on Hunter, Rodgers, or Murray to catch passes. At least they would save $14m this season and about $7m a season for the proceeding 3 years. But right now, you have a frickload invested in a position that just isn't important, and you have a coach that gets VERY pass happy.

Honest question here. Why not pick Ingram at 24 and get a DE for much cheaper?
