And no drafted rb has ever helped a team? So if ap were available you wouldn't have taken him this year? If you really think about it, most every team in the play offs have high profile rb or high profile qb. Very few have both, now it looks like we do.

Every year you bitch about our picks. Every year. And weren't you high on meachem?

i said we should have drafted a RB

just, later

he's one of the 3 franchise backs in the NFL, so yes, i would have taken him in the late 1st

whoa

mark ingram is not a "high profile" RB until he proves it on the field. if thomas isn't cut and stays healthy i doubt ingram even starts this year

He's improved, but don't act like starting OT for a playoff team makes you any more right.

Stinchcomb made a pro bowl for fricks sake.

I wouldn't have argued had we drafted an OT but obviously Saints FO thought the issue was with the backs, not the line and that's what you saw tonight.

I'm sobering up so I got a bit more reason to me now.

and at the time our OL sucked and we picked harper, who is utterly replaceable and at a very common position (SS)

But, this opportunity passed you by. Then, you run the risk of competing with other teams for a "hot" free agents and losing out (like with LT) or those old vet breaks down..or the old vet just busts.

None of the alternative scenarios are without risk regardless of what you think. And if you think there is an elite guy you can get who is head and shoulders over the the players who'd be available later in this draft you need to take him.

This was a reasonable move. I'd respect your opinion if you said you didn't think Ingram himself was worth the pick. But, taking the #1 RB in the draft at #28 is hardly a reach.

i never said that

but a proven vet is a much lesser risk than an unproven rookie. that's a fact

and having a vet + our picks makes the saints better off than no vet - our picks, correct?

i think this is just where i disagree. i don't think ingram is elite

unless there are no good RBs in that year

oh you mean starting SS for a Super Bowl team and 2x pro bowler?

And even though OT wasn't really addressed in that draft unless you count Strief, which I'm sure neither of us are, it's weird how out Oline improved since that draft, huh?

Yeah, SS is one of the least important positions, but Harper is very good.

SS is a common position and harper isn't THAT great

and our best secondary player that year was sharper, who was a cheap FA pickup (just to give an example of relative value)

don't act like it's hard to find good SS who play the run and suck in pass coverage

this staff, thankfully, has invested in the OL and CB. 2 areas the previous staff had issues with drafting

I don't get it, at least you guys didn't trade back and make a horrible mistake like missing out on two good 5 techniques.

It would be nice to actually fill a need once in the draft. I'm not freaking out or anything, we're going to pick up either Lashore or Ryan Williams next round and I bet Greg Little finds his way into a New England uniform, I just wish we had picked a more NFL ready OT.
