So I got into an argument with my friends over the vegas side of things. According to them, vegas controls everything. Who win and by how many points. I happen to think it is a true competition between teams.

They however argue Vegas pays off the Owners of each team who then spread the wealth across the board to key players. They pretty much called me stupid because I believe the game is played fairly, officials not with standing of course.

They point out an example to me with the saints and Carolina game. They bet something call "over" and "under". With Over being 52 points. They said that alot of people bet "over" because the saints like to score high. So vegas then tell them to win "Under" which is under 52 points.

So both two teams have combine for a grand total of 50 points, on that last drive by Carolina, had Fox kicked the field goal, alot of people would have been happy, because they bet "over" it would have been over 52 points.

So to maximize their profit, they told the coach to not kick the field goal there by making it an "under" game. They also told Coach Payton to not cover the spread at all. I think it's B.S but they seem to believe it whole heartly.

Unfortunately, they are 7 and I am just one person. How can I back up my side?

John Fox should have kicked the FG. There's no way that an NFL referee can dictate to an NFL coach what to do there. Fox is just that stupid.

Vegas is just making money on the losing side. There is one pot of money on each game each weekend. Vegas moves the spread and over/under to get equal amout of money on each side of the bet. That's why you will see a spread move through out the week. Loser pays the juice (5 or 10%) to Vegas. They don't care who wins or loses (unless they are stuck with a big bet on one side b/c they didn't have time to move the spread and balance the money flow).

So update I show them the article and they were kind enough to break it down for me. Again, they called me stupid. They said that article reference vegas lost is just for show. The real money from the local bookies who actually gain profits.

Then they also said there is only a few players on each team that know what is going on. Offense Coor, Def Corr, and the Quarterback. That the head set that they use to talk to each other is also use to tell the the Quarterback which play to use.

So the example they give me is to think why would a quarterback laugh after making an incomplete pass? Because apparently he is in on it. while at the same time if they needed a touch down really badly they will tell the other team coach to give his defense a bad play so they would be expose and mis-matched.

They said that is why sometime you will see so many busted coverage play and long play's that work. Then of course, their final example that they gave me is the Superbowl last year. They said that was the real money maker with billions on the line and everyone lost.

Even though the steelers won, they did not cover the spread and alot of people lost on that "over" and "under". So while I think they are retarded , the guys on this board always seem to ask "what's the line" and "what is vegas thinking?" So how much of it is Vegas and how much of it is professional sport?

Well, when they are your friends for years, hard to break up a friendship over sports. I myself think they are delusional but people keep on asking for the Vegas line on here and the Tiger boards. Supposedly Vegas is in the know. If it is clean as I think the sport should be, why are we even concern with Vegas heck why do we even let them bet?

Actually, you can bet on anything in Vegas from the Oscars to the Presidency, so I guess they must control/dictate everything, even the New World Order.

Yeah, it's much clearer now. Vegas caused 911, faked the Holocaust, and faked the moon landing, too.

No possible way this could go on this long without no one every ratting the system out, no matter how much they're being paid.

Back to Back weeks the Field Goals screw me.Last week the Falcons hit the field goal at the end to make the saints not cover. This week the Panthers should have hit the field goal to win the over. It makes these last two weeks bitter sweet!!!!

though the point shaving conspiracy theory laid out in the original post is ridiculous, Vegas is not without its influence...i.e. the rule that you have to make an extra point try at the end of the game even if you've already won.
