Something does not smell right. Overthecap shows that his salary this year is fully guaranteed, so they ate his salary this year and accelerated his 2017 prorata share of his bonus (so it cost them over $1 million cash and nearly $3 million in cap space to release him.

If he wasn't released because of his character, and if he doesn't have any long-term injuries, then yeah I'd sign him.

CBS Sports Insider Jason La Canfora reports the Patriots decision to release DT Dominique Easley was off-field related. It's not clear what Easley is dealing with off the field, but his release wasn't a "pure performance/football matter." There's rumors Easley's rehab from chronic knee issues also played a role in his release. Easley was highly effective when healthy last year, grading as a top-20 interior pass rusher across 275 snaps. The Patriots will lose $400K in dead money if he isn't claimed and signs with another team. Source: Jason LaCanfora on Twitter Apr 13 - 4:25 PM

Then they wouldn't have released him.

Not sure why we wouldn't put a claim in for him. Probably wouldn't get him but definitely worth putting a name in the hat for.

With our D-line it would be a crime not too.

Sounds like he's being on the cheeseburger Eddie level of laziness when it comes to rehab... Maybe this will wake him up.

If he can get healthy and both him and Fairley play to potential we can be really solid.

Top bad that's a lot of what ifs

Easley, Fairley, Jenkins, and Davison at DT plus a Rankins or Butler would be soo sick.

With all that at Tackle something is going to work out. I would run a nonstop rotation with that group. 100% effort all the time or ride the bench. If everyone buys in, everyone can stay fresh and we can launch an attrition war on the interior of every NFL OL.

I did want, but if this is the case I think we should pass. He has to get it together Locker room cancer, lawsuit from a friend, and plus pending lawsuit. I had a feeling it had to be more than just injuries.

If we can get him cheap, then id say go for it. He comes in and messes up hes outta here. When he's healthy he is a beast

Id rather take a chance on him than see him go to his old DC and face him 2 times a yr.

Well, he went unclaimed on waivers. Still unclear if its due to health or off-field issues (or both). but he does seem pretty banged up still. Interesting to see what happens with this guy after the draft.

Huh.

Payton and BB know each other well and are relatively tight. I'm sure he made a call to get the lowdown.

I'm still on the DT first train, even w/ Fairley. BUT, if we can get Easley, then get the sickest DE we can get in the 1st, even if we have to trade up for him. If we can get our LOS skrate, that will do wonders for our team.

Still thinking something behind the scenes hasn't come out yet that NFL teams know about and we don't. Releasing him is one thing, him going unclaimed is crazy even if he were a head case with major injuries (which he apparently is).
