Should Saints go after Russell Wilson in 2020?

Why Seahawks should worry about QB's future in Seattle
With 2019 POSSIBLY being Brees' last year, would you be in favor of trying to sign Wilson as his replacement?

Yet here we are with Russell Wilson quietly having only one year left on his contract and entering what can only be called a lame-duck year in 2019. There is no doubting Wilson's bonafides; he has been to the playoffs multiple times, he has won a Super Bowl, he has been in the MVP discussion on an annual basis and he's done it despite limitations around him offensively, from offensive line to receivers to scheme. But according to CBS Sports NFL Insider Jason La Canfora on the Pick Six Podcast Friday (it's a daily NFL show, you can hear the full interview below and you should probably subscribe right here), there has been zero contact between Wilson's camp and the Seahawks as it relates to an extension. This doesn't happen. If a stud quarterback under the age of 35 is heading into the final year of his deal, he should be getting an extension. And it begs the question as to whether the Seahawks and Wilson might be headed towards some kind of divorce or even just an aggressive game of three-way chicken that involves the quarterback, the team and the upcoming CBA (more on that factor in a second).

That would be a dream come true honestly. A dream that i can only dream of imo cause I just dont see it going our way. But if it happened, Sean Payton would be a lucky son of a gun to get 2 hall of fame QBs back to back.

Russell Wilson is honestly pretty awesome, and he'd probably be ridiculous with Sean Payton as coach.

He's not leaving Seattle. They will tag him if they have to.
This is La Canfora trying to put out a shock piece; he's had several of these with Brees alone. He's just hoping to finally get one right so he can run with it. It is not uncommon for teams to let a player's contract run into the last season.

Not happening, but I wouldn't be opposed to it.

Anybody who wouldn’t want Wilson as a replacement should just stop watching football. That being said, the chances of it happening are super low.

no matter who they bring in will be a HUGE downgrade
simply because few if anyone in the game today has brees work ethic and understanding of the game and how you need to constantly evaluate everything happening on tape to prepare and during the game to make adjustments to how teams are trying to defeat and confuse you.
have you seen any other QBs from any other teams sitting on the sidelines evaluation live action of what happened on their last drives to be better prepared for the next drive? brees is a very very rare mind, not even addressing his actual talent level

He doesn't really have a choice if they tag him. Hopefully he has a falling out with the Seahawks organization after the 2019 season.
I'd take him in a second. He & Doug Baldwin have basically carried that offense for about the last 5 years.

It's been speculated for a little bit now that Seattle is looking toward life after him. If you were dead set on keeping him there's no way they let him head into a contract year without being re-signed. Not saying there's a great chance, but, if he hits the market and Brees is done, we're gonna go after him hard. So will everyone else.

Yeah, the story/speculation is that she wants to go to New York.
You take Russell Wilson every day of the week of Brees hangs it up. But it’s not likely happening.

It’s a pipe dream but sign me up. We’d be set for years and Wilson would do great under Sean imo

You do realize the Saints have done the same thing twice with Brees, right?

Yes.
Wilson is about as close to brees as you will find in the league right now. Size and ethics speaking. Never thought of this. Damn. I want now.

Fair point. But both times we were coming off great years. Seattle has not been good for a few years now.

Seattle has not been good for a few years now.
They are in rebuilding mode. Their bell cow RB got old in Marshawn Lynch. So did Richard Sherman & Cam Chancellor got hit hard with the injury bug.
We had to undergo a similar rebuild over the years. The key is drafting well. We will see how that goes for them.
The difference in situations is that Sean Payton was in for the long haul. Pete Carroll is old which makes you wonder how much longer he will coach? That in itself has to be a concern for Wilson heading into negotiations about his future in Seattle.
