Should Drew Brees be given time off for “load management”?

Load management” has been all the rage in the NBA with stars like Kawhi Leonard and Joel Embiid receiving frequent nights off for rest purposes. That’s easier to justify over a hectic 82-game slate, but usually when NFL players get an in-season breather, it’s not on game day.

However, Dominique Foxworth argues those rules shouldn’t apply to veteran Drew Brees, who the Saints need healthy and rested for the postseason. A midseason reprieve with favorable matchups against the 49ers, Falcons (twice) and Broncos in Weeks 10-13 would provide exactly that. Foxworth suggests letting Brees’ backup, former first overall pick Jameis Winston, take the majority of reps during that stretch.

I think payton is trying to load manage while playing. That being said the nfl isn’t the nba. Losing one game in the nfl can completely change your playoff outlook.

I mean that isn’t exactly a given. This team needs to get A LOT better before we start taking games for granted.

Thats the stupidest thing ive fricking heard...because the saints are 3-2 and no guarantee to make the playoffs. Now if they get to that stretch and are like 7-2....and the playoffs are played in a neutral site bubble so homefield doesnt matter, then sure

I thought this was going to be something dirty and involving kneeling. Nevermind.

He literally throws like 30 passes a game and more than that each day in practice.

I dont think taking games/plays off will do much.

Seems like they are load managing him on the biggest plays of the game and having Taysom handle those.

By “load management,” do you mean that Drew and Brittney need to take a long break from all the loads that Micheal Thomas and Malcolm Jenkins have dumped into their mouths and on their faces? If so, then YES, Drew and Brittney definitely need a "load management" break from that.

Only if we're blowing out a team by 30+ going into the 4th quarter or it's the last game of the season and seeding is locked up regardless of the outcome.

How winded can you get from throwing 30 3 yard patterns all game?
