re: Shefty: We could get Vilma, Smith back as soon as tomorrow

So, you wouldn't want Payton to coach this team? You think this team would be any less competitive? I understand the Us vs the World thing is a huge motivator, but after suffering a devastating loss to the 49ers last season they were already motivated.
If anything with Payton were to happen, it would probably be a reduced suspension. Let's say 8 games for example. You don't think that when Payton would get back they wouldn't be out for blood on everyone even more? They'd be even more pumped up.

I just really like the idea of CSP taking a year off to recharge his batteries and coming back with a huge battle cry next season. I think it could work out wonderfully and prolong his career.
Maybe I'm incredibly naive but that's just where I am right now. I think the team is already ready for this burden and in a weird way they welcome this burden.
BTW - we had already started hearing rumors about CSP not being a "lifer" and probably hanging them up in a few years. I swear we heard this. I think this (and probably the financial situation from his divorce) will get him to be a "lifer". Which I'm all for.

Yeah, frick CSP. He would ruin their edge.
I know. Not sure what is better, reading some of the dumbasses here or reading the J. Lee threads on droppings.

I know I wouldn't want this "former shell of himself QB" at the helm of this team. I think that would take the collective chip off of the shoulder as well. Pfffft.

Oh geez, this is going to be the new "shell of his former self".
Look, obviously if you gave me the choice of having CSP or not having him, I'd say yes let's have him.
But I also think that long term this is the type of thing that will make him more appreciative, harder working, and more mature. Like it or not, he has had some issues what with the pillgate, cockiness with local media, not communicating at ALL with the sideline last year during his injury, abandoning the run too often, etc. A year away could do him wonders.

Is there a full moon tonight? The tards are coming out everywhere like zombies on Michael Jackson's Thriller video.

"Jason David is the best CB on our roster"
The sad thing is that in 2008 (when McKenzie and Gay were still hurt) he probably was.

Boy mate, we've sure had a lot of grand old times together, innit?

it was on Mike and Mike. They had Schefter on, and the next segment had a lawyer that actually knew law.
No offense, but that guy fricked up in so many ways I don't have time to list it. He made so many mistakes, his knowledge of "law" is suspect at best.

You went full retard with this post.
Do you honestly think Payton coming back wouldn't fire the team up THAT much more? Not to mention the immeasurable intangibles/experience/leadership he brings.
If we get Payton back, I guarantee you he comes back with a vengeance. I'm talking 50-60 points a game, no letting up, never taking the starters out to make a point to the commish for ever fricking with him/the Saints.

You guys can take this for what its worth but I actually agree a bit with Minnjandro here.
I have an acquaintance who went into a restaurant and had a huge wait for a table...Payton had a large unfilled table and invited him to sit down with he and his party. Asked CSP how everything was going and Payton responded very genuinely about how this was pretty much going to be the best year ever. He gets a year to himself to relax and recharge and then comes back to an incredible job. Seemed genuinely happy that he is getting a year off.
Again take it for what its worth but I 110% trust this guy.
That being said...I think we'd definitely be better with CSP.

You're likely right. I think sometimes I put myself out there with a contrary idea just to see if I can convince anybody else. But yeah as my good mate above me points out, Payton can use this to come back better than ever. He's going to get paid in pussy this year.

Hey maybe long term it is best for him to get a year off to himself
But for the team we have in place right now to make a run with? I want him here. These years of Brees in his prime paired with SP are pretty precious, I'd rather not lose one.

If it was to play out like star caps I almost hope Vilma plays this year then just retires
