I know of coordinators hired by other teams, but has a team ever promoted a coordinator on its staff and had any success? A friend and I are trying to think of examples when it worked.

George Seifert went from defensive coordinator to head coach and won two Super Bowls.

Mike Martz went from offensive coordinator to head coach, went 53-32 and went to a Super Bowl.

Bill Parcells went from defensive coordinator to head coach of the Giants and won two Super Bowls.

Dave Wannstedt went from defensive coordinator to head coach in Miami and went 42-31 with two playoff appearances.

Jim Caldwell was an assistant head coach & quarterback coach for the Colts, became head coach and went to a Super Bowl.

Art Shell went from offensive line coach to head coach and had five winning seasons.

Isn't every head coach promoted from coordinator? Regardless if it is same team or different team.
