I disagree. Guards are much easier to replace and less important on the OL. While it would be great to keep Nicks, I don't think you do it at the expense of losing Colston. He's too important in the WR position for our team to be lost.

If they can make it work to sign all three without sacrificing bringing in players at other positions, then I am game; however, it's not smart to tie up that much money into a position where high talent isn't as important as other spots.

Our offense is built from the inside then out. You saw how bad it was with Kreutz in there. Drew uses his inside protection to step up a lot. Bad things seem to happen when drew's running for his life on the outside. Not saying colston is not important but I think Nicks is above him in the pecking order slightly.

Statement recalled. I don't follow the Twitter universe much, simply because most of it can be just garbage to start trash....

no way he leaves. Loomis will get this done. Brees success starts and ends with the three guys in the middle, and they know it.

id expect they work on Nicks first so they have more flexibility, then structure Brees contract accordingly.

I dont see any tags coming.

My source - me.

Drew is usually able to avoid the rush from the edge by stepping up in the pocket

this is what all QB's with pocket awareness do, not just Drew.

Why do you think they paid Evans big money and let Brown go for peanuts and replace him with a second-year tackle

Brown was hurt, sucked and overrated. The second year tackle is a first team pro-bowler.

I'm not saying they shouldn't have paid Evans, but there comes a point in which you can't tie up that much money at a position which is easily filled. Having a top guard is a plus, not a necessity. Maybe this offense does center around the guards more than the tackles, but that is completely against the grain of OL play. Edge rushers are the premium in this game, and Tackles are the ones responsible for blocking them. Guards have less space and responsibility than tackles, thus are less valued.

Pay Brees and Colston, tag Nicks. Very Simple, then we throw big money at Nicks next year after we get rid of some dead weight like Will Smith

Honestly, Nicks' deal could be the least complex to get done.

Not really

I don't use that particular email very often at all. It was the one I set up years ago and pretty much use just for selling ticket. Once all the tickets are sold I don't really check it anymore. Sorry man. I need to delete it and set up a new one.

Do we have that kind of money?

Franchise tags are expensive as all the money counts against this season. Perhaps we can backload Colston's contract?

Hey Marques, we're going to give you a fake 6 year monster contract and cut you after 3 seasons.

I understand that, but Bushrod was not even close to a pro-bowl tackle when they unloaded Brown.

Again, I understand but in this offense it's absolutely critical to have that pocket. Big Ben, Tebow, Rodgers, etc do well to run around and make plays out of the pocket. Drew is most effective and comfortable stepping up. Making plays out of the pocket isn't his strong suit. Guard > Tackle with this offense/QB IMO.

I have faith in Payton and Loomis they will do whats best. And honestly its prolly going to take Drew taking one for the team AGAIN and take a slight pay cut, but I doubt that happens and I dont blame Drew at all. I honestly think we sign Colston, Nicks is going to get HUGE money thrown at him.

9 million a year is the starting block, then let the bidding begin.
