Those interested in a Pro-Bowl guard. RT @15miller: Carl Nicks said new contract has to be more than teammate J Evans $56.7 M dollar deal.

That's a ton of money for two guards.

Yeh idk how that's gonna work. But we will see. If not, I trust Loomis/Payton to find another diamond in the rough

I hate that "he got X, so i gotta get X+" bullshite.

Thats how salaries got to be so inflated to begin with.

He's earned it, but he's not gonna get it from us. He's with us one more year if at all. Damn...I'd rather keep him over Evans.

Until i hear it from Nicks mouth it's BS. If true time to find that next O-lineman, we have been great at that

As far as I can tell, the original tweet came from some guy named James Miller who looks like he works for NFL Network on SiriusXM. Nicks did a radio interview today. I'll see if I can find the audio.

That's how markets are set, but that's only a part of it. The NFL has grown in popularity, and the players act like a commodity. There's increased demand, and that drives up the price.

its good for the individual, but not for the game. The salary cap helps to mitigate this effect.

That's silly. Why isn't it good for the game? You point to the salary cap as a way to mitigate players salaries, but if there wasn't a market but a set scale, a team could seemingly afford to collect all the star players they wanted. The game would really go in the toilet then.

The market keeps things competitive too.

He'll be gone, unless they franchise him. Saints won't pay that much nor do they have the cap space. I say we focus on signing Drew and Colston. Payton has always been able to draft and develop OL talent.

I'd like to franchise him while we develop somebody else and have whoever that is ready to go in 2013.

Probably true...he is better than Evans, why shouldn't he get more than him? And anyways, it is only natural he is going to ask for more since Evans set the record at G. This is how salaries get inflated in the NFL...

If the Saints are going to overpay on the oline, I think Gs is where it needs to be. That is obvious. Brees style means he needs better Gs than Ts. Traditionally, Ts are usually getting the big contracts but you don't get many QBs that make DEs look silly stepping up and releasing the ball so quick. Brees needs that comfortable middle line. Prevents injuries, keeps him comfortable and allows him to make DEs his bitch.
