Say we do lose him and have to draft accordlingly... Any value at OL with any of our first three picks (heck, any of them...the way the Saints roll)???

Which is why all season long pressure up the middle was the way analysts said to stop Brees? The model team build is constantly changing in the NFL.

analysts say this about every non-mobile quarterback, which means 90% of them. Just because bringing middle pressure is "the way" does not mean teams have the personnell to do it. Very few do. This is due to pass rushers being DEs and OLBs. Defenses are predominantly built with big bodies in the middle to controal LOS with speed on the edges. While there are ways to get the speed guys and Safeties to come up the middle, it's still an edge rush game more than anything else. There's a reason why LT is THE premium money position on offense not titled QB

The way our offense works with Drews height puts extra emphasis on the middle. Our tackles probably take an extra half step away from the interior in order to give drew a clearer sight line of the seams.

They literally are just forcing rushers to the outside, with the idea being that the middle will be clean and drew can step up.

Regardless of how well defenses are suited to bring pressure up the middle, our offense stills places higher premium on interior pass blocking than most. Hence the difference in value for tackles and guards.

That said, I minus a tag, I see some other team throwing more than just $1 dollar more than Evans, at Nicks.

This keeps getting thrown around on these boards a lot, but I've yet to see anything other than opinions to verify this. Here's the fault with this logic..... ALL QB's like to step up into the pocke; that's the whole idea of a "pocket", to allow the QB to move forward from the edge rush as well as to step into his throws. All O'Lines try to create throwing lanes for QB's; this is not something unique to the Saints. Until I see some evidence that the Saints do not value the Tackle position as much as the Guard position (evidence not being TD opinions or that of one dumb ESPN "analyst"), then I am not buying this argument. It doesn't make sense since pass rush in NFL is mostly from the edge.

Evidence would be the actual market the Saints have set for the Oline.

The Saints have made Jahri Evans, at the time, the highest paid Guard, and if the Franchise tag is available will throw it on their other guard. That would make Nicks, at least for 1 year, one of the top compensated guards.

Look at the contracts for the tackles. Streif and Bushrod are making roughly average to below average Tackle money.
