You may not think he's worth it, but this deal absolutely says he's in the future, or at the very least, they're going to use 2021 to find out.
If he’s the future then doing a two year deal was a huge mistake.

No dude.
If he was offered by another team, then we would have to match their offer.

If we're assuming the 1st part of what I said that they will give him the keys and a shot in 2021, you get a 1 year tryout to see if he's worth a longer term deal.

This is retarded. You said bidding for Taysom started at 4.7 mill, but no one offered, as if that meant something.
In response, I told you (and others did also), that if other teams offered Taysom it could cost them a 1st rounder if the saints declined to match, andddd the Saints would match the offer anyways since we obviously want to keep Taysom.
And here we are. Now at this point, no idiot, despite your contentions, the Saints cannot just “offer him this new deal otherwise.” They would have to match or decline to match. But it never came up because teams didnt want to lose a 1st and Saints were showing their intent to keep Taysom.
Its not how RFA works. Stop trolling.

Saints can extend players at any time before free agency starts smh
They went thru the process cause they would have taken a 1st Rd pick for him
Otherwise no reason to negotiate a $4.6mil tender if they aren’t going to let him play at that number

Not the context. See above. And stop trolling

I think penciling someone in as a starter precludes the notion of a tryout.
ETA: I get your point but just view it as a half measure.

The player has to sign off on a longer deal
Taysom wants a chance to start
This was a way he got some money for next year
It was a compromise for both sides

Why would they want him as the 2nd qb this year and waste everything else he does
They have him that money for next year because he will get a chance to be the starter
It may not work out but taysom would've bolted if they didn't give him more money for next year
Like I said it was a compromise

If true, this makes much more sense now.

That is totally illogical
If he’s the QB of the future surely he is good enough to be the backup and handle the ball every snap if needed and not just twice a game as a gadget player

I’m not understanding the concern in this thread. He’s an incredibly valuable player for us even if he’s not playing quarterback
Y'all are totally missing this, Taysom is taking over for Kamara in 2021

I could be misunderstanding his argument but I think it’s that they won’t trot QB2 out to block punts and shite.

Saw today they’re cutting back on his special teams plays.
Mistake

That’s Tight End type money. Can’t find anything wrong with those numbers.
That's the way I look at this. Gives Hill a chance at QB job and if it doesn't work he's getting paid like a decent WR/TE/RB and Saints get to keep his value on the team. If QB pans out, he gets a new deal in 2 years.
Posted on 4/26/20 at 6:37 pm to Lester Earl
He is going to compete to be the qb of the future
This year he is more valuable in an al.ost every down role

How can he be the backup and play all the other positions
You are smart enough to know that won't work
Obviously this is how Payton wants it
Taysom doing what he does best this year
Next year when drew retires he will get his shot to start

Cause there’s a capable 3rd QB on the roster.
