LMAO. You think his tender was 8-10mill??????????

Shut up dude! His tender was 4.7 million. Not 8-10 million. Please dont make me explain to you how RFA works.

He's averaging 8 mil guaranteed per the next two years right?

Because. They. Knew. Saints. Would. Match.

Saints already proclaimed Taysom as potentially the future, and obviously we resigned him after the fact. So again, there’s no point to extend a 4.7 milly offer that will never go anywhere.

Annndddd teams wouldnt want to lost a draft pick either.

Stop being a troll. Some of these posters actually believe you, and your making shite up with that one.

Yes. But for a team to extend a RFA tender would 4.7.

Its restricted free agency. Taysom’s tender was not 8 mill.

Averaging numbers isn’t applicable to this goat.

You think they just gave him money bc it’s the right thing to do or they may just have a plan for an expanded role for him?

He was a restricted FA with a first Rd tender with no guarantee past this season. How does the team take advantage of that if they want him here past this season?

You don’t know his market was bc no one was touching him. You don’t know what his market is bc there isn’t a player that does what he does. And you don’t know what his market is bc you do not know the intentions for him

You over here acting like he’s gonna play 22% of the snaps this season. How many touches are gonna satisfy you?

Nope

Cause they would have just offered him this new deal otherwise

And I didn’t say his tender was $8mil lmao. You look like an idiot for not being able to follow the conversation

Maybe, but you can’t pay him for that now.

I was with you until here.

Even still, he’s going to be 6th on the team in touches.

If they expand his role and he’s getting $4.6mil, even better. That is good business

The way the team is built he’ll never get enough touches to justify it. Especially if they don’t even trust him to be the second QB.

Lester, you argue it makes no sense to pay Taysom the gadget these kind of numbers yet argue against that he’s the heir. It’s hypocritical or naive.

Earl you look an idiot period right now.

If a team offered a huge contract and the saints didnt match they would’ve lost their 1st round draft pick.

We out a 1st round tender on Taysom smartly.

So if some team gives him a big contract we get their first round pick. That costs us 4.7 mill to do.

Like I said, if a team offers him a average contract we obviously match and keep our player. But if we dont we get their first round pick.

No team wanted to lose the pick. And we would match anyways since we value Taysom. It wouldve been pointless.

Bruh if a team offered a big deal the saints would have to match or decline and get their 1st round pick.

No we would nnot have just “offered him this new deal otherwise” its not an option.

You are telling me the saints couldn’t have offered him an extension at any time & have him agree to it lol?

You’re looking at it with a limited scope of this year with drew still here. This is more about next year and beyond imo, preparing for life after drew. I think that’s worth investing in given the qb focused nature of the league.

Sean has said he thinks taysom can be a starter in this league. Now with Jameis we have some incentive to push taysom to win the job and some insurance/another option if he doesn’t. Plus we have someone back in the teddy role for this year.

We aren’t in Green Bay favre to Rodgers kind of qb shape but I like where we are at.

Taysom says he sees his role being more like it was against Minnesota last year. Wants to dial back on special teams a little bit.

That’s an irresponsible way to hand out contracts Chad

This is cute Sean Payton. A total emotional decision

So let's take the argument of who you think should be the 2021 QB or whether you think it should be Taysom out of the equation. Let's say Payton has penciled in Taysom as the 2021 starter, and go from there.

What would be the best plan of action going forward to have Taysom under contract in 2021?

Wait a year. What is he all of a sudden going to turn in to?

I don’t think he’s in the future. Theyve signed QB2’s in back to back years. Their actions have told the story which is why it’s so confusing the money says otherwise

When he becomes an unrestricted free agent, you think we could get him for cheaper than we did now?

You may not think he's worth it, but this deal absolutely says he's in the future, or at the very least, they're going to use 2021 to find out.

If Brees retires and he continues to get 3 touches per game for the next 2 seasons, I'll agree that this deal is trash.

Hill is not going to not going to be playing QB anymore except for WildCat formations. It is why they signed Winston and then traded up for a QB. Hill will be converted to a RB, TE/HB.
