I see alot of yall criticizing his toughness, physicality and his catch in traffic ability. When will yall realize he's not that kind of receiver. He's 6' 185 lbs and runs a 4.2 40. Thats like criticizing a screwdriver for not being able to drive a nail.

I'm not sure I buy that, but thats what we get for drafting any player from ohio state.

I'm sorry what?

He had 1200+ yds and 13 tuddies last year.

We didn’t give up the draft capital for him to be good. Brandin Cooks was good.

Olave needs to be an elite WR to live up to the billing, a guy that is focus 1 for a defense when playing the saints.

Weird analogy since the Saints gave up a 3rd rounder to move up in the 1st to draft Cooks. In 2 of his 3 years here, was Cooks the defenses #1 guy to focus on? Saints had Colston & Jimmy his rookie year, then drafted MT in his 3rd year.

1200/13 is pretty great and he was elite in his prime.

But age 31 going into his 10th season get ready for those numbers to decline. His TE frame will get him some short yardage endzone pts. but as a WR Godwin will likely have more total yards this year.

Evans led the league in rec TDs along with being named an all pro in 2023.

The draft capital given up for cooks vs olave isn’t in the same ball park.

The analogy is both guys put up a lot of hallow stats. Olave’s numbers are good. His impact on the game isn’t there yet.

And he hasn’t lived up to the billing. No one would do that trade and make that pick after seeing what kind of player Olave is.

The picks we traded to get him require him to be a Julio jones/juston Jefferson level difference maker.

Where are

Waddle
Devonta smith
George Pickens
McLaurin

?

I’d take all to be on my team the next 3 years over Olave (except maybe mclaurin)

And Diggs, Amari cooper, Keenan allen, Godwin are still productive.

Olave hasn’t distinguished himself in a league with a lot of great pass catchers

I think you're mixing up the trade for Olave and the trade used to be in position for Penning. Now, if they don't make that trade for an extra 1st, do they still go Olave or Penning can be up for debate. But the trade for Olave was a 1st, 3rd & 4th rounder to move from 16th to 11th. The trade for Cooks was a 1st & 3rd rounder to move from 27th to 20th. So they are in the same ballpark, unless your argument is they don't draft Olave if they don't have the other 1st rounder.

I agree with this about the trade to get the extra 1st used for Penning, and they failed there. They would have needed to get Tyler Smith or Linderbaum to make this trade close to being worth it (obvious they wanted to address WR & oline in the first that year)

Waddle and Smith benefit greatly from arguably the best wr in the league pulling double teams and the #1cb.

Pickens, I agreed with until he became an absolute headcase. It's brandin cooks territory. Giving up on a play because it ain't going to you, that's not conductive to team play.

Mclaurin was olave's comp coming out, you worry he's going become nothing more than that

It is admittedly hard to say allocate the eagles trade between penning and Olave, but to say the saints only traded their first, 3rd and 4th pick for Olave isnt accurate either.

The saints traded the eagles a 1st round pick plus a future 1st (turned into the 7th overall pick), second, third and seventh to get two first round picks. Some of that capital has to be viewed as capital to get Olave.

I would argue most of it should be viewed as capital to get Olave because he was the first of the two first rounders taken. It’s especially painful to do when the saints future picks are likely to be high picks vs the environment in which we made the cooks trade.

I do hope Olave takes the next step, and think he may well. But watching Olave for the first two years his play is a a lot of fantasy candy and not enough winning plays.

It was simply a bad trade. It is also probably unfair to hang that weight around Olave’s neck.

Which pick is the one they traded their future for is definitely one to discuss over a 6-pack
