seemed like in the TB game that if a player was even nicked up in the slightest they were held out as payton wasn't risking the future of the season for that game.

The probability of any specific team making the super bowl is lower than the probability of them not making the super bowl.

So technically they are correct

Seriously what is the big deal?
The road will be tougher, Saints will have a target on their back the entire season, and how many teams have gone back to Superbowl the year after playing in one in recent history?
Obviously they are going with history in that a team will upset the Saints in the playoffs and advance to the Superbowl.

The Patriots have done it this decade and the Broncos, Cowboy, Bills and 49 Niners did it last decade. It has happened more than you think.

Here's some statistics for you...

Green Bay Packers
Super Bowls I & II, XXXI & XXXII (2 in a row twice)

Dallas Cowboys
Super Bowls V & VI, XII & XIII, XXVII & XXVIII (2 in a row 3 times)

Miami Dolphins
Super Bowls VII & VIII (2 in a row twice)

Minnesota Vikings
Super Bowls VIII & IX (2 in a row once)

Pittsburgh Steelers
Super Bowls IX & X, XIII & XIV (2 in a row twice)

Washington Redskins
Super Bowls XVII & XVIII (2 in a row once)

Denver Broncos
Super Bowls XXI & XXII, XXXII & XXXIII (2 in a row twice)

San Francisco 49ers
Super Bowls XXIII & XXIV (2 in a row once)

Buffalo Bills
Super Bowls XXV - XXVIII (4 in a row)

New England Patriots
Super Bowls XXXVIII & XXXIX (2 in row once)

So 10 teams have done it a total of 17 times out of 44 Super Bowls, and one team went to 4 straight Super Bowls, roughly 38.6% of the time. In other words, based on ESPN's reasoning, and how much the Saints have kept from last season's team... yeah, it's kind of absurd for ESPN to not give the Saints a chance to make it back...

Again do you not understand what RECENT history means?

New England is the only team since Denver 98/99 and Green Bay 97/98

Obviously recent history is past 10 seasons, hell we could even go past 15 seasons as Free Agency and expansion have changed the NFL.

You go back 15 seasons you have 1 repeat winner and only 3 (New England/Denver/Green Bay) teams to play in back to back Superbowl's.

This is still about 20% of the time that it happens (and with 32 teams I would take those odds) considering that the Eagles were knockin on that door for several years in a row, The colts missed the boat to being one of these teams, and the Patriots could have possibly done it more than once in that span.

All I am saying is that it is more possible than you make it sound.

And all I am saying is people should not get their feathers ruffled just because ESPN says it. Basically more than half the time (80% according to you) teams do not make it back after being in it. That would help ESPNs cause for saying that, of course when the picks do come out you will have some analyst pick the Saints and others will not.
I know it is off-season so people have nothing better to discuss but these "ESPN hates the Saints cause they did not say we would repeat" threads get old after about 3 of them.

No guy it's 80% according to your definition of recent history. The Percentage is much higher if you look at the league history as a whole.

I don't give shite what ESPN said, they are wrong every year anyway.
