Only two NFL teams actually talked to the #Raiders about QB Derek Carr prior to his release.
The #Saints, and the #Jets
Saints did make an offer. The Jets only inquired but "talks didn't go very far", according to
@AlbertBreer
Carr is now released and free to sign with anyone.

Not surprising. Works out in the end with keeping a pick

Isn't carr a sensitive guy? Maybe us wanting him enough to offer a trade will mean something to him

Yeah he is. My understanding is that he wants to be somewhere that his coaching staff will support him and have his back. He and McDaniels did not get along. I don't think it was as bad as McDaniels and Cutler but i heard it was wasn't far off. McDaniels has trouble reaching his players on a personal level and i think Carr needs that and needs that reassurance from his coaches.
If Rodgers doesn't get traded to the Jets, I think Carr ends up there.

Jets deciding not to try and sign him is probably a vote in his favor

If it was as high as a 3rd round pick I am glad it wasn't accepted.

Shows how incompetent this organization is
Offering assets for a guy no one else is willing to give assets for

As someone else pointed out here, it most likely shows we won't be signing Davenport, so it would help us keep our comp pick for him. If we sign carr, we lose the comp pick for Davenport. Therefore it probably boiled down to we like Carr's current contract better than expected or we just wanted to prevent losing carr on the market.

Guys signed that were cut do not count towards the comp pick formula. I remember this coming up when we resigned Malcom Jenkins.

Then the offer is questionable. That's good info too that we could potentially sign carr and keep the comp pick

And Carr said no.
Don’t get your hopes up.

Because the other teams all new what was going to happen.
Saints did too, but for some reason tried to jump the gun.

Other teams have cap space should a bidding war take place if he got to free agency. Saints were trying to prevent him from hitting the market.
