Fox says the @saints win over the @bucs drew a 16.2 overnight rating.

That is a four-year high for a FOX NFL Week 1 game

Maybe, just maybe, it was attributed to 70,000 that typically watch in the dome that were at home watching and the bars in Nola weren't open for gather in mass so they were watching at homoe. Of course more tv sets are going to be tuned in.

Got a big boost from New England, I'd imagine.

I don't think you realize how tiny of a number that amount is compared to the national rating which is what this is. It really isn't moving the needle.

That's not gonna impact much. There was a big rating out of Boston for the game and Tampa had a 33% increase from last year's opener. I see no reason why New Orleans itself wouldn't have brought in good ratings although that hasn't come out yet. Or at least that anyone has posted. Saints fans are passionate, you probably have less watching in north La, but I imagine as I said, New Orleans City, not much changed, and may have increased.

Think it's possible all those internet tough guys saying they're boycotting are secretly watching the game?

They can’t stop posting on a message board, you think they have the restraint to not watch

Was the Saints game a national broadcasted game? Wasn't it a regional game? The ratings don't count every TV that is tuned but samples households inside regions then extrapolates over populations. 33 percent rise in the Tampa market and the rise in the nola market helped more than you think. The additional 10,000s in each region boosted the overall numbers big time. Most likely disproportionately.

This was the first sign that they were full of it. But it won’t end. Some will still claim to not watch and others will come up with an excuse to justify why they watched. “It’s not as political as I thought it would be.” Yeah, no shite, Sherlock. The rest of us already knew that.

A 16.2 rating is over 40 Million viewers. That a 33% increase in Tampa Bay and and the people watching at home in New Orleans are a rounding error.

I’m in a group chat with two people who were / are both boycotting.

Both were talking about the game come kickoff

Anecdotal I know, but saints fans are gonna watch the saints. We can’t help ourselves.

It was the national game outside of 2 areas.

I only saw one site that said 33% increase but I have no idea how that works as far as everything else you said. You can be mad at the Saints like me, but that doesn’t mean we should hope they lose or go out of business

ETA I’ve seen some say they hope they lose. But what if 4-5 weeks from now, 1 week, or whenever people get over it and now you still gonna be happy they lost week 1 (if they would have lost) And how the hell can present or former Saints fan root for the Bucs?

I never said it accounted for all the new viewers over last year's numbers but it's a large factor. The variables are much different with covid fears and bars in major cities being shut down.
