Not really. But, for a TE? This defense sucks so let's trade a defensive player for a TE?
These are two players at the end of their contracts.
Both currently backups.

The trade is kind of meaningless.
Although bizarre.

Honestly no one on here is part of the Saints front office. There is far too much Sky is Falling, Doomsday, Blow it Up, They are so Stupid talk.

Hicks was not playing up to par and if that is a position coach issue hopefully it is addressed soon.

Belichick almost always gets the better end of his trades, he's an anomaly in professional football. He is notorious for moving guys around regularly and picking a player up for one season and then dumping them. This doesn't mean Hicks is superstar in waiting.

I am still sad about losing Ninkovich but we did get Dave Thomas and won a super bowl through that trade.

Crazy to think we basically only have 4 first rounders and two 3rd rounder from 4 drafts prior to this last year's still on this team.

The ridiculous thing is that most of the Saints big players were draft gems:

Colston - 7th
Strief - 7th
Evans - 4th
Nicks - 5th
Graham - 3rd
Bushrod - 4th
Morestead - 5th
Stills - 5th

It's crazy when you think of how many late picks were key players for this team.

Our Best OL were 4th and 5th rounders. Best WR's were a 5th and 7th rounder (so far).

Then, everything went to hell.

I think the issue is the Saints always took players that were diamonds in the rough, but our offensive coaching staff that developed them is gone:

Curtis Johnson (2006-2011) - WR's went to hell once he left

Aaron Kromer (2008-2012) - OL, especially the interior has gone to hell since he left.

That is what has killed our offensive development. Defensive coaching has always been horrid, largely because our position coaches have been crap, thus our defensive draft picks peak early and then just regress as they get more coaching. Whenever the players keep changing but the results don't, it's about coaching or lack thereof.

Hicks will probably go on to be a very good player for the Patriots. He was one of the few players we have on defense who is physically above average for his position. He had above average size, strength, and good speed for his size. We needed more DL's like him, not less. Was playing below his potential but still better than a lot of what we got on this team.

You're right about him having good measurables, but his technique was shitty(maybe Bill Johnson's fault). He also had the worst instincts and awareness that I've ever seen. He plays like he's blind or something. I'd rather Richardson get the experience.

As long as this guy can block and catch. All we ask. Which is more than we've had out of Hill and Watson so far.

Tebucky Jones had all the measurables but sometimes they don't translate to the field. Losing Hicks will not hurt the D. line and if Michael(Hardword) can block ? Worth the risk. Besides if he is a good locker room guy that's a bonus.

Touches on Grahamalamadingdong taunting the Saints and congratulating Hicks on "getting out" of the dumpster fire that is our Sean Payton-led Saints.

Yeah, because a 1-2 Seattle with a now injured star rb, an ol that can't block, and disgruntled players is far better...

But iI agree,Patriots situation is far better than either.

I liked Hicks until about halfway through last year when it looked like he just didn't care anymore. That fire that was there his rookie year just disappeared for some reason last year.
