Thinking this kid will play safety and our 4th rounder will be our nickel cb. Only way this pick makes sense

Setting up this defense for when Drew retires after winning the Super Bowl.

Might be looking at him as a special teams ace.

SUMMARY: A three-year starter at Rutgers, Hampton earned the starting free safety role in 2016, battling injuries as a sophomore and junior before starting all 12
games as a senior. His 16 passes defended in 2018 not only led the team, but tied Michigan State’s Justin Layne for the most in the Big Ten. With his press-man
background, Hampton has the traits of a ballhawk, using his athleticism and tracking skills to make plays on the ball. However, his average anticipation and
suddenness will make it tougher for him to be a playmaker with the action sped up at the next level. Overall, Hampton might lack the consistency to be an NFL
starter, but should find a home on special teams with his speed and toughness, adding depth in the secondary if he stays healthy.
GRADE: 5th Round

Didn’t think we needed another safety. They must have like him
Marcus Williams was the only true safety on the roster coming into today.
Chris Banjo was the 3rd safety on the roster coming into today.
of course they need safeties

Good. The more competition the better. Idk what the hell happened last year but the secondary dipped back into the suck pool.

WRs and RBs were pretty fat there

This past season, safety Saquan Hampton was the top performer on the Rutgers defense. Rutgers’ 1-11 season did not get the team a wealth of national notoriety, although NFL scouts were paying attention all season as they were regular visitors at Rutgers to check in on Hampton.
“I always had high expectations for myself,” Hampton told Scarlet Nation during Rutgers pro day. “Entering this season, I always knew what my capabilities were and I just think I put it all together.”
In the days leading up to the 2013 NFL Draft, former Rutgers safety Duron Harmon did not have a ton of buzz and could not be found in many mock drafts. So what happened? Harmon wound up being a third-round pick of the New England Patriots and is still a member of that team to this day.
There is a very good chance that Hampton could follow a similar path. He has a similar skillset to Harmon and his 4.48 forty time at the 2019 NFL Scouting Combine helped his cause. There is no reason to believe a team won’t select Hampton as early as the fourth round as he has tremendous upside.

About 15 minutes on Google will help these "I'm not happy" folks realize that the Saints grabbed yet another hybrid DB who can do a little of everything. That's why he fits modern defense needs. This guy could easily be as impactful as CGJ.
The Saints played 5 or more DBs more than all but one other team in the NFL last year.
Hampton is another team leader who can play either spot at safety yet was asked to play a lot of man coverage for Rutgers this year and led the Big Ten in passes defensed.

Didn’t they do this last year? Draft a couple of DBs who couldn’t crack the depth chart because it was too deep so they cut them?

Think this is a wasted pick. 1 of the 2 safety's want even make the roster watch.

I love fan reactions to late round picks
“Why didnt we get that sure thing future NFL All Pro in the 6th!?!?”
Hell its a decent pick if this dude just makes the team.
