and having no actual talent at the WR and TE position and being 1 deep at the RB position...all because Payton thought his scheme could make up for it.
It didn't.

There are several reasons a team brings someone in to interview for HC. First is obvious, to seriously consider for the HC job. Second, as a favor and practice for a coach they see with HC aspirations. Third is surveillance and to get to know a coach that you may have to compete against, or for other future coaching considerations.
My guess is that Leftwich is in the third category. This is the time to talk to him without any other teams contract limitations.
DA grades out as the better HC candidate.

Neat. Meanwhile they won a Superbowl.
He's a legit candidate to interview for the job there's nothing other to this. It's not for intel or compliance.

NFL Network's Tom Pelissero reported Monday that the league will require clubs to interview at least two external minority candidates for head coaching openings and at least one minority candidate for any coordinator job, per sources informed of the decision.

Kris Richard could be another in house candidate they could interview for rooney rule purposes.... but... i have no problem with investigating leftwich... wonder if he has any mutual interest.

The Saints were last in passing offense BEFORE Winston got hurt.

And it would look really obvious that we were just looking to fulfill a league rule.

We went 5-2 playing hide the qb to get Winston comfortable. And we lost a lot of linemen for 1-2 if not the season early on.

Kris Richard interviewed 2 years ago for Giants HC position. You're discounting Richard slightly. He'll be a HC soon.

Winston played well. Check his QBR and passer rating. If raw yards are what you love, he led the nfl in passing yards 2 years ago. 2 years ago though, his passer rating and QBR weren't good though bc he didn't play well. Raw yards is a bad metric to judge a qb by

What about Eric Bieniemy from Kansas City which I think would be better than Leftwich in my opinion plus he is a Louisiana guy.

Had the #1 offense in the NFL the year before Brady.
Get him.
Get him.

Another thing you have to remember is that was more of arian's offense that year. They changed things in the middle of brady's first year.
I like leftwich but i wonder if he has enough juice for a head job. He is great as an oc but he seems very low key.
