By releasing him after June 1, however, the Saints would only have to take a $4.1 million cap charge in 2015 and could push the remaining $12.1 million to 2016.

Someone else will pick him up for pennies on the dollar as a redemption project. Oh well. Guess Saints didn't have a choice in today's climate.

I guess I'm in there, too. I wasn't convinced about the stripper deal, but the other stuff...

Yeah, he sucks.

So, since we only have ~$3 in cap space, did we have to clear space to cut him?

Not really. It's a pretty big loss for our defense.

After a quick look at his contract:
2015: Saves $1.35m (his $1.25m base salary and $100k workout bonus
2016: He Costs us $7m against the cap (the total $12.1m bonus based cap hit - $5.1m base salary/workout bonus)

A lot of people seem excited about this. If you didn't want him on the team anymore, that's fine. But our defense absolutely got worse today, and this signing was a huge disaster for this team.

The $12.1m cap hit is automatic. Gallette already has most of the bonus money in his bank account.

My thinking is they will battle him by contract language. Morals clause, etc.

They may settle w/ him, but I just don't see them taking a $12M hit.
