Lofton wasn't very good

Kendricks, McKinney, and maybe Dawson or Perryman all look like upgrades in the 2nd Rd

Foster and Irving are the ILB FAs I'd want. Who knows where they'll spend?

I agree on the 2nd round. There are very good MLB prospects littered in that round.

Looking at the PFF stats, I think we'll be fine (better off) with this move. He was last on the team against the run and third worst against pass. Yeah, he was a good locker room guy, but his play on the field was overrated.

All we need to do is sign a MLB in FA. Sign Mason Foster and draft Kendricks or McKinney= profit

I don't think Loomis would still have a job if Payton didn't want him.

considering his role with the Pelicans, he has a job as long as he wants it, sadly

he hired Payton, so i would guess payton would indeed go to bat for him

Release Hawthorne. Not Lofton.

Reality is that releasing Lofton was part of the plan to get under the cap. I'm sure they have a plan. We don't know what that is or if it will work out, but someone will be playing LB and the front office will field a team and will be in compliance with the cap.

The point was that doesn't make you a good GM, it just means you can abide by the cap like every one else does.

man had 145 total tackles in 2014, 4th in the entire NFL. 112 straight starts. yet not good enough for the saints. you are all stupid. in the top 3 defensive players on the team. not a smart move.

Having a shitload of tackles doesn't mean a damn thing sometimes.

It means no one else on our soft pussy defense tackled anybody other than Lofton

123 tackles in 2012, 125 tackles in 2013 and 144 tackles in 2014. restructure and keep until solid plan in place. common sense absent when the super intelligent loses touch with reality

Thats fine.

They should have a plan ready to go instead of just letting him go for no reason.

Who's to say as of yet he will not be back?

400 tackles 5-10 yards downfield aren't nearly as good as 200 for negative yards or 1-2 yards.

He sucked.

You release a player a year or two before they are done for good....not after. It was time to let him go and get younger at that position.

You really need to go look at how the most successful teams work, like the Pats. They are always cutting big names and everybody's all "Oh My God they cut him!?" Yet they keep winning and staying a young team.

There aren't many head coaches that would have a say in such a matter. You could count them on one hand. Payton is one.

Know what ILB had 148 tackles, 1 sack, 2 FF, 3 PD, became a backup the following two years, and then out of the league?

Whats your point? Tackles =/= good defensive player
