There I said... and I went caps on you.

I guess I can't argue with that

Look I just don't think the Saints need to go after a blocking type TE. I do feel a decent reserve TE with good receiving and blocking skills would give some added depth.

I just disagree with you with Strief. I think he is a good part of our offensive game plan

Strief will be busy this year filling the void left by reggie bush.

Cmon Chad, Strief is a solid backup at tackle and we all know he will never be the starter. So you can drop the act bc I know , that you know, that Strief's roll on this team is important.

I'm definitely not against adding a blocking TE, but on the other hand it's quite obvious to me that Payton would rather use a big Tackle like Strief to block on certain plays where normally a TE would do it. If the play is designed to where the TE's assignment is to just block, then what does it matter then if it's a TE or a Tackle?

Not to mention it can also help sell the run when the other team see's Strief lined up at TE... thus opening up the pass and/or playaction.

If Strief would have even just left the ground he could have made that catch

He looked like he just tiptoed and then fell backwards

He looked like a pathetic fat arse backup offensive tackle trying to play tight end with the agility of a dead walrus.

Whatever. The running game is better with Strief then with a FA "blocking" TE plus you are able to fill 2 positions (Reserve OT and Blocking TE) with one roster spot. I don't think you get how huge of a bonus this is.

You need to quit fantasizing about Strief licking your nuts.

So let me get this straight, Strief is SOOOOO one dimensional that when we put him in the lineup, the defenses would be SOOOO fooled... Why doesn't every team in the NFL use their 4th string OT as their 3rd string TE then?

Baltimore uses this jumbo formation a bunch. The Saints also used it to help with pass protection against some of the better pass rush teams.

If Payton didn't like this formation don't you think the Saints would have made a move for a blocking TE in the two previous offseasons?? Payton likes the OT eligible formation better than a 2nd traditional TE.

Another tid bit fact you guys are completely ignoring. A lot of the jumbo packages that strief comes in for has 2 tight ends PLUS Strief. So, I'm still not content with David Thomas being a blocking tight end in those formations and we can still stand to use an upgrade to better our team. Stop fighting it, i'm completely and utterly fricking right and I'm willing to bet that we probably bring in an UDFA or a FA tight end that will have a damn good chance to make this roster.

Yes but i believe what the majority is referring to is the formation when he comes in as the only tight end on the field, with a TB, FB, and 2 WRs and use the run and play action off of that.

I think they will bring in a blocking tight end who has a chance to make the roster because they generally do anyway.

Brees gets pretty damn good protection if you ask me. Funny thing here is, you're arguing for the sake of arguing. I don't even think anyone here would be against bringing in more depth at that position.

Nah, Chad is my boy. He always listens when I speak b/c my vast superior knowledge means everything to him. If you notice... he wont argue or reply to my posts when he knows I'm right, its in fear of me dropping more bombs.

You say this but then i've encountered an awful lot of tight end addition resistence in this thread in my wanting an additional tight end that's more on the blocking type side.

I love steve's two back to back sentences here...

Lastly, outside of my Strief bashing which really has nothing to do with the Saints 3rd tight end IMO, my points on acquiring a tight end are spot on and I was hardly doing much bickering.

Shockey was a more than adequate blocking TE. Also, does the possibility of Strief being a free agent change your mind? Because I wouldn't resign him based solely on his ability to be a "blocking TE threat".
