The ironic thing of all this is that Payton and Loomis have been real big on player character and conduct, on and off the field. If it turns out they did something wrong (and I'm hopeful they didn't) they'll be ripe for major criticism at the very least. Regardless, I expect Drew will hold this team together come hell or high water.

dang, I leave town for a couple of days and things fall apart

I read deadspin for entertainment but they had a surprisingly balanced take on this-

This is one of those suits where we're actually reserving judgment, instead of just claiming to because we're supposed to. On one hand, it sounds like a classic disgruntled employee, looking for cash (initially $2 million, according to Florio). On the other hand, Santini claims to have hidden camera footage of Vitt raiding the medicine cabinet, and hidden microphone recordings of conversations with Patton, Loomis and others about the cover-up. If he can produce those, then maybe we've got a full-fledged scandal on our hands here.

if this goes to trial and he wins the suit, i doubt he'll get $2M

if this story is true, it's probably worth $2M to keep him quiet. the problem is that EVERY OTHER employee who knew about this would have to be paid off also

I'm thinking the best idea, if the guy only has the video evidence against Vitt, is to pay Vitt to take the fall. He's the one on video, have him say he was the only one that had anything to do with it, and pay him off to take the all of the consequences (again, probably no jail time anyway). I'm sure they'd rather give Vitt any payoff $ than this Santini guy.

it's like the reggie bush situation

he's going to depose every member of the saints organization to make them commit perjury or admit to illegal activity

(assuming the allegations are true. there seems to be a good bit of smoke but that doesn't mean it's true)

They f'd up when they didnt just fire Vitt in the beginning. The guy got caught stealing pills twice. Then was reprimanded and got caught AGAIN doing it. He shouldve been gone a long time ago.

All they had to say is that he wanted to spend time with his family and nobody wouldve thought twice about it.

Ummm, that's not exactly how it works...

No judge is going to allow everyone in the organization to be deposed. It's also assuming the suit doesn't get thrown out via a motion to dismiss. In reference to "commit[ting] perjury or admit[ting] illegal activity," those deposed will be prepped sufficiently I'm sure. There are various shades of gray in every situation.

This is insane, though the former FBI agent talked about it, resigned a month later and at that point stated he was going to take legal action...that is the prefered method for somebody when there is a little truth involved. i hope it is not true....as a current government employee, that is what i would do.

I'm now hearing it was only 8-12 pills unaccounted for. Does anyone know if this is true?

DEA is investigating now.

quote:

NEW ORLEANS -- Federal authorities are looking into allegations made in a civil lawsuit accusing the Saints of trying to cover up a senior staff member's theft of prescription Vicodin pills from the team's training headquarters.

"The DEA was referred this case, and there is a pending investigation," said Special Agent Roberto Bryan Jr., a New Orleans-based spokesman for the Drug Enforcement Administration.

if this thing goes as high as loomis, most everyone is fair game. i only meant the real players

vitt, SP, loomis, maybe a benson, probably some players, the doctor team, etc

i said the allegations would be true

and don't you mean an exception for no cause of action?

pleading the 5th will be enough for the court of public opinion and the NFL

not if there is a video of a guy taking pills out of their storage area and audio of people talking about covering it up

Exactly. More like 5 people.

Sure. I'm not licensed in LA. Same idea, I presume.

But that's changing the subject, don't you think?

True, but I still think there are numerous gray areas. In any event, they aren't going to get in there and admit everything because of pointed questioning. There will be some explanation offered if it even gets to that stage.

not of it's a shakedown

there is no explanation for a video of a coach committing a felony

the audio is the bigger worry, as it allegedly implicates SP and possibly loomis
