I would love this signing.

Bring him home.

Saints Wire

quote:

We’ll be filing this one under “Made too much to not happen.” The New Orleans Saints made contact with former LSU Tigers and Las Vegas Raiders tight end Foster Moreau on Saturday, who made a formal free agent visit to the team facility in Metairie per ESPN’s Field Yates. Saints college scouting director Jeff Ireland was a fan of his coming out of Baton Rouge, and Moreau was a favorite target of Derek Carr with the Raiders — he averaged 2.6 and 3.6 targets per game the last two years. This doesn’t mean that a signing is imminent, but it would make a lot of sense. Moreau is a competent blocker who could push Adam Trautman down into a role more focused on what he does best (paving the way on run plays) while complementing Juwan Johnson as the lead tight end. Having Johnson handle the lion’s share of receiving duties while Moreau chips in as both a receiver and blocker, being more of an all-around player, could be a nice addition to the offense.

I don't understand the hate for this potential move. Even if he wasn't a former Tiger, he's been solid as a pro, and has gotten better as a pass catcher.

From PFF:

quote:

...he finished last season ranked 12th at the position with a 69.7 receiving grade and was the only tight end to log at least 40 pass-blocking snaps (63) and not surrender a single pressure. Moreau ranked first by converting 70.6% of his catches into either a first down or a touchdown, and 35.3% of his catches were explosive plays that went for at least 15 yards, the third-best rate among tight ends in 2022.”

Seems maybe smart to pair him again with that QB?

He's ok, but still more of a backup. Draft is way too deep to overpay for him. For a decent price, he would be fine.

It's hard to imagine that he's a guy that you over pay, not at this stage of free agency.

I love the idea of signing Foster as a depth piece, but this is the deepest TE draft in years. There will probably be 3 first round TE picks and several more athletic freaks available into round 3. If we can sign Moreau without affecting our comp pick formula, fine. I'm just not sold on Juwan yet and wouldn't want another TE signing to preclude the Saints from drafting a special one if available.

Moreau would be nice to have not only for his abilities but he’s already familiar with Carr so that is a plus.

We could free up 2.7 million in cap space by releasing Trautman.
