I think you're taking that out of context. He's saying that to most people outside of the City of New Orleans - Saints fans sound like:
"The poor, persecuted Saints. Everyone is picking on us. The commissioner is a big meanie who actually makes us pay for what we did."
Clearly he's throwing a not-so-subtle jab with the "pay for what we did" comment. Not my words, just his. I do 100% agree that the majority of non-saints fans/non-new orleans residents feel this way though.

Well shite man, if the team didn't do what the NFL is claiming (and we haven't seen definitive proof yet), then how the frick else you expect fans to feel?
Besides that his "article" is shite. I can't believe they let him post that.

Or maybe....just maybe.....Vilma is telling the truth. It wouldn't be the most shocking thing in the world. Doesn't seem rational that he would be pushing it this hard if he knew Goodell could provide something to make him look even worse.

Oh definitely. Not arguing that. I've said for at least 3 weeks now that the NFL needs to release its "evidence" or if it's weak - they need to reduce the suspensions.
I don't think it matters now though. Serious damage has been done if you look at just the draft. By removing the 2nd round pick it altered the entire draft - for everyone, especially the Saints. The $$$ hurt. I don't think it's helped (at the very least it's a distraction) with the Brees signing ordeal.
I don't see how Vilma was even going to play for the Saints this year anyway. He'd be a decent backup but signing Lofton basically killed Vilma's career anyhow.

We would find a way to use Vilma. He can still play.
I think it does matter. Vilma's name and the image of the Saints organization has been dragged through the mud. If this somehow forces Goodell to reveal the evidence, and it turns out to be shakey or misrepresented, then that's a huge deal. No it wouldn't undo all the damage, but it would undo some of it.

I'm starting to notice a "frick New Orleans...but oh you're right, agree to disagree. Let's stay friends." trend with DD.

??
I was agreeing with what the "article" said with that blurb I quoted above. I do agree with that sentiment and how the rest of the nation views all this. I also agree that the NFL should show it's evidence. I can do both - they're not mutually exclusive.
It's just called not being a homer.

What did anyone in this thread say that indicates homerism?

Well most people don't give a shite or keep up with the story like we do. They're just glad it's not their team.
But Freeman, who's suppose to be a professional journalist, sounds like a complete arse when he goes off on a tangent like this.

Most people don't really care about how things affect others if it didn't happen to them. This is how most people are throughout the country and this is true for most situations (not only football) in our lifetime.
Most people heard the first reports (one-sided reports to say the least) that said the saints were guilty of this, took it as gospel, and have moved on to the next big story. Most are not even concerned with the evidence when in reality they should because it can happen to their team if powers aren't challenged.

Let's say this whole thing happened to the Falcons...I'd still think this imbecile's article is moronic. I'd be totally fine with the Falcons getting the shaft, but still be able to see this is some bullshite the NFL has pulled.

Newsflash: from the viewpoint of the Saints, who cares what happens outside the city of New Orleans?
Do Cincinnati residents have season tickets to Saints games? Do companies with HQ's in San Francisco buy Superdome luxury suites? Is the majority of Saints merchandise purchased in Denver?
The Saints are primarily (and rightfully) concerned with keeping New Orleans and Louisiana's fan base happy. So it's actually a rather brilliant move to turn all of this on the commissioner from that standpoint. Keeps your primary audiences' anger united against a common enemy and focused on something other than yourself.
That's not bad for business at all.

All four guys on ATH just "bought" Vilma suing....so there!

And even if 100% of the fans from other teams think the Saints "did it" then it still doesn't really change my enjoyment of watching the games this year. Now, I'm prepared for the Fox and ESPN announcers to beat it to death during the game.

if the evidence is in fact weak, ifthe suspensions are in fact overkill for the transgressions, how do we get our draft choices back?

I believe what you ask would be very easy indeed.
You just have to go to the draft order director to have your petition addressed.
Very easy my friend.

If Freeman was in Vilma's position I would bet the farm that he would be doing the exact same thing! It is easy to throw stones from on on your high horse Freeman!
