re: Saints exploring options to get into the top 10?

Keep dreaming. We would have to send picks just for someone to take Peat’s contract. If they are trying to move to the top 10, let’s call it pick 9, then you’re looking at giving up 28, 60 and our 1st next year. The ONLY way you do that is if you’re taking a QB. The more realistic option is a trade up of 5-6 spots where you’d be giving them 28, 98 and probably a 4th next year.

Sounds very expensive

Since we gave up 8 1st rounders to get Davenport maybe we can just trade him straight up for a top 10 pick!! :rotflmao:

No way they trade into the top 10 for a CB. They’re doing leg work for a QB if one falls. My bet is Fields

Why? Has potential to be a huge bust.

We're going to be in an even worse cap position next year. Team can't and shouldn't be trading next year's 1. That would be a mistake.

we'll borrow the following year's 1 at that time.

So in a year when we are desperate for cheap depth and have holes everywhere throughout the roster, we gonna trade high up for one player?
We should be moving down to the 2nd if the top 4 corners are off the board and pick up extra picks this year.

quality of starters matters more than cheap depth.
QB's of the future matter more than anything.
Premier league CB on a rookie contract means more than picking up mediocre cb play especially when we need instant starter.

Loomis has already said in an interview he wants quality from the draft not quantity.
ETA I don’t think it’s for a CB. My bet is it’s for a QB if one falls or maybe Parsons

Sean Payton's philosophy regarding trade-ups, as stated in the presser after selecting Davenport, is that there are only 4 premium positions worthy of aggressive trade-ups: QB, Edge rusher, CB & OT.
He reasons the initial high price is not as high in the long-run, because if you are in the Super Bowl the next year, the 1st rd pick you lose/traded away is just a glorified 2nd rounder.
He further equates it to the US government spending billions on a program and while everybody initially freaks out about that, it's just a drop in the bucket because the country still manages to function with a national debt in the trillions.
With that mindset, I'll bet Sean has often maxed out his credit cards.

I’d even be okay throwing in pro bowler return guy Harris into the mix if we don’t have to lose next years first

Jay Glazer just tweeted the same thing.
