We aren’t drafting top 5 with Carr, it’s a fact of life. No reasonable alternative is magically showing up on our doorstep How many years do teams go through to find a QB? Are you seriously arguing teams don’t go 5, 10 years before finding a legitimate starter? We already have one

Yeah, every GM in the NFL considers those players equals

Nobody said that

They're all mediocre to barely playable. Carr is in that tier. He doesn't raise our ceiling much, if at all, so effectively there isn't a difference.

We're mediocre with all of them.

Who said anything about drafting a QB in the top 5?

I was actually arguing it doesn’t take 5-10 years to build a competitive team. Which it does not. It’s not just about finding a QB. Of course there are teams that struggle for years on end but that’s because those are incompetent organizations. If that’s the case then Derek Carr doesn’t matter we’ve already seen him with an incompetent franchise.

Now I don’t think the Saints are incompetent, though they have made some moves lately that do keep teams stuck

How about an actual qb stat to judge them?
Passer rating career...
TS - 78.7
DC - 92.3

Anyone equating these 2 is a moron

Things I've learned reading this board...

Trent dilfer, Brad Johnson, Doug Williams, and nick foles are better than guys like Dan Marino, Warren moon, Jim Kelly, and Phillip
Rivers. Eli manning is better than Drew Brees. Super bowls are a qb stat, not team

Well what makes TS and DC comparable if wins aren't the stat to judge a qb by?

Was stafford a good qb at Detroit? 74-90-1 (.451) and 0-3 in playoffs. At Carr's current age, stafford had never won a playoff game. Did he become good when he won the Super Bowl or did LA want him bc he was already good?

Career passer rating...
Stafford - 91.0
Carr - 92.3

Our team is handicapped by dead cap and an aging roster with a weak coaching staff.

Short of the elite of the elite (Mahomes and Allen), no QB could salvage this team

So, if you're going to be mediocre, then what's the difference in Carr and a guy like Semien, or Jameis, or Dalton? We literally have data to look at this.

7-9 wins.

No playoffs.

Carr is a slightly better QB than Semien, Jameis (maybe not Dalton).

Carr is not a good enough QB to elevate the Saints above mediocrity.

Why pay top dollar for a QB who can't move the needle?

I can't tell if you people are just happy getting 7-9 wins every year or you think that we are a title contender, but I reject both.

You can repeat stupid shite all you want but it doesn’t make anything correct. Carr was not a top 5 reason why we didn’t make the playoffs this year. He is a top 3 reason we nearly did.
