How could he still not be ready for week 1. The dude has been out since the beginning of last season. Ridiculous.

He will probably end up practicing and hurting something else.

I wonder if he's going to start practicing on a limited basis and slowly come back?

id say that what it sounds like, a gradual process to get him back in form and shape.

That's absolutely what they're doing but this process could have been started in the offseason. You can't tell me that the 2 weeks during the season will make all the difference in him returning when he had a shite ton of weeks since the injury. Process could have been started sooner bottomline.

I'm still concerned about him just being thrown into a regular NFL season game without any preseason practice or preseason game reps under his belt.

If he practices this week and next week, then he'll have some work with the team.
Not much, but some.

Besides, how much do you think he would have played in the preseason anyway?

I have zero confidence in Byrd returning and contributing meaningful time in the beginning of the season. I would guess around Week 10, if he stays healthy, is where he will start to hit is stride.

I'm just very pessimistic of this signing right now. Injuries are not a thing you can really forecast, but with the back injury he had surgery for last offseason, what in the hell is this medical staff doing?

Derek Ponamsky made a great point about that this morning on the radio. It's the same staff that works for the Pelicans...and they've had their fair share of fun injuries.

It was started in the offseason, he was returning from a knee injury/surgery. They had him on limited dills based on what the doctors cleared him to do. He was not cleared for practice (per reports) until just recently. It would not have made sense to have him start practicing with the team BEFORE the doctor's cleared him to do so.

I won't go that far, but I think it will take time. If he's able to take the field by week 3, I think he will only do so in sub packages for 2 weeks, then he will work his way into the starting lineup by week 5-6.

He made that one play in Atlanta last year where he punched the ball out after getting burned for a would-be TD. Very Jason David-like. Total ball hawk

What? It was a quick screen where Byrd came from the other side of the field to punch it out

In what way was he "burned"? That was a phenomenal play
