The Saints gave C/G Nick Easton a four-year deal worth $22.5M. It includes a $2M signing bonus and just $4M guaranteed, all of which comes in the first year.

Launcha made the comment yesterday that players want to come here now. I think these contracts are proving that.

Teddy Bridgewater's new Saints deal is for $7.25M fully guaranteed in 2019. He has a $1.25M base salary and a $6M signing bonus, but the Saints added two voidable years to spread out the signing bonus to 2020-21 (????).

So, Bridgewater counts just $3.25M against the cap in 2019.

Overthecap I've never seen a contract like this. Not sure what to make of it.

Nick Easton signed a 4 year contract with the New Orleans Saints on March 21, 2019. The contract is worth a base value of $22.5 million with $4 million guaranteed at signing. The guarantee consists of a $2 million signing bonus and $2 million full salary guarantee in 2019. Easton has salary escalators available for 2021 and 2020 although the details are unknown at this time.

2019 cap # - 2.5 mil
2020 cap # - 5.0 mil, dead money hit - 1.0 mil
2021 cap # - 6.0 mil, dead money hit - 500 k

Loomis gave us an out in the 2nd year.

Damn. Not bad at all.

Just waiting on Malcom Brown & Sherels now. These 2019 cap #'s are awesome.

QB Teddy Bridgewater - 3.25 mil
RB Latavius Murray - 1.85 mil
WR Cameron Meredith - 4.15 mil (pay cut)
OC Nick Easton - 2.5 mil
K Will Lutz - 1.9 mil
DT Mario Edwards - 1.46 mil
LB Craig Robertson - 1.7 mil
CB Ken Crawley - 2.025 mil (tender) Not guaranteed
CB Justin Hardee - 645 k
S Chris Banjo - 1.5 mil

Brees also gave us an extra 10.8 mil in cap space.

could also partly explain cook signing, Saints org. making sure all previous deals go through first since some are a bit strange and all heavily depend on certain structures being approved having the space for such guys trying to acquire.

The way it's worded can be misleading. It doesn't mean he has a $4 mil cap hit this year.

More likely he has a $2 mil base salary year one (fully guaranteed) on top of the $2 mil signing bonus which gets spread out over the 4 years, meaning only $500k is on year one.

So it seems he has a $2.5 mil cap hit year one (super cheap for a starting center if he pans out), with only the remaining $1.5 mil of the signing bonus left if he doesn't and is cut after the first year.

As for actual cash (which doesn't matter for cap purposes), that's the $4 mil he gets this year ($2 mil base plus $2 mil signing).

Edit:
Sorry GMoney, didn't read the rest of the thread. It does confirm what I thought.

And it's pretty standard for guys that are flyers. Low guarantee and first year hit with big money following if he earns it.

This is a steal. It’s a 1 year $4 mil deal for all intents and purposes with the Saints having the option to move on after the year for almost no cap hit at all or if Easton turns out to be a quality starter they have him for 3 more years at a discount still at $5-6 million per considering average at best OL are signing for $8-12 million per year this offseason. Fantastic deal by Loomis and Co.

Pretty sure the signing bonus is spread out over the life of the contract, if it’s a one year contract then it counts this year plus his salary, so his cap hit is $7.25M....

Edit: just saw 2 voided years added ...

I was critical of this signing because it seemed to be a knee jerk reaction to Unger’s retirement. Given the contract terms however, I was wrong. This is an excellent, no risk signing for the Saints.

It helps to have a winning team. Great players want championships more than the biggest payday, and fielding a contender will bring in these types of players at reasonable costs. See New England for reference.

Still pretty tight up on the cap I'm sure, but we have $4 mil more free from the Teddy deal than I thought.

I'll give it a look on my lunch and see if I can piece it together (if otc doesn't already have it updated).
