Fleener should hang up the cleats. (concussion issues)

I think he will and not sure who would sign him either.

To be fair I didn’t hate Fleener as a player. He was a clutch type player, came up big in crucial situations.

he had 1 noticeably big game as a saint that i can remember

Man I had high hopes for Fleener & actually liked the signing (not for the money though)

I'll always remember the Redskins game this year. Basically isn't in the stadium but from like 2 mins of the 4th quarter until OT he finished with like 90 yards

like once?

I'm not speaking of the # of huge games, but he's come through in clutch situations several times. I forget you only want us speaking negative though. Like I said, his contract sucked for the Saints, I don't care that he's gone, I'm kind of glad he is tbh.

He was coming through with some big catches in critical moments in the first game against the Vikings. There were games where he may have only had 2-3 catches, but quite a few of them were "big time" catches in very much needed moments.

I don't mind parting ways with Fleener, but wish we had done more to address the position in the offseason or draft than to just rely on a 38 year old TE.

Wasn't a portion of his salary guaranteed in February? So we basically cost us a few million by not cutting him a few months ago?

it's pretty simple, we couldnt cut him at the time without a replacement lined up. We had to hold in case we didnt make a move there

Yea we lost out on some dead money, but this is addition by subtraction. Watson slides in to Fleener's role with the other guys falling in where they were previously.

No, not simple. Teams do not pay $3.4 million to hold onto a player they do not want.

He got killed vs. LA rams. It was bad watching it.

Just hang it up man.

Everyone knew he was garbage the day he signed. Not only that but his deal was so bad based on the market that year.

Yeah. They wanted to use that money on ladarius green instead.

Every option people shot out that offseason would have been bad.

I don't think he could pass a physical so we couldn't release him.

No doubt - agree there. The main issue was the price tag. And that was absolutely ridiculous.

I agree about the need on defense, but don't look at this like it's "another toy". We saw what happens to our offense with no true weapons. Granted, last year might have been an anomaly, but losing Watson hurt, and we no longer have Colston. Drew needs people to throw to.

The only thing I posted in either one of those threads, and I'm pretty sure this is what drove us to overpay for him. Saints were desperate for production at TE, or receiver in general. Loomis went overboard to give Drew what they hoped to be key cog in this offense, blocking be damned.

ETA Shout out to MJ for calling this deal out early
