We aren’t that far away. We need to make solid FA signings like we did last year and have another solid draft where we potentially land multiple key contributors. We have a roster full of talent thanks to an overhaul that started with the 2015 draft. We need to continue to trust the process that got us to the playoffs in 2017.

I used to think a splash signing and selling the farm to win now was the way to go but it’s not anymore. We have talent every where that we used to not. We can win now and be set up for the future with solid FAs and a solid draft

100% agree. The perfect fit for what we need in our WR2 opposite MT13.

While I think he would excel in this offense, I just think the cost is too high

I agree with you 9 times out of 10 but we are in a different part of life with our NFL team. We need to sell the farm for Drew and crap out later.

It would cost a 1st or 2nd round pick (which we don't have). After 16.2 mil for Landry & Brees' contract...we won't have shite left to spend in F.A., & we won't have our 1st round pick. Landry could also sign with another team next year.

Unless we won the Super Bowl...we would be completely screwing ourselves over.

Not true at all.

Plenty of times teams have done a tag and trade for lesser picks and the outgoing player signed a new contract.

If he signed a new contract with us...that could probably work. I guess I wouldn't complain if it just cost us our 3rd in that scenario.

Other teams could offer better than that though. They have 2nd rounders & better 3rd round picks. We would have to get extremely lucky to make this deal happen imo (or do something really risky & give up pick #27). Too many things working against us.

Oh I 100% agree with everything you said above. He will decide if he wants a ring or wants a big contract with a bad team. San Fransico is probably the biggest direct threat. NFC and quality QB with money.

Go get Martavis Bryant instead, please.

So we got rid of Cooks last offseason for complaining about not getting enough attention in the offense so this year, we can bring in another WR who not only complains about not getting enough attention in an offense, but has also been suspended for a year?

Give them Fleener and Trey Hendrickson and a mid pick.

And a Offensive minded Coach that is very good.

I don't even think the Browns are dumb enough to take on Fleener's contract. They would probably want Hill (2.8 mil) over Fleener (8.0 mil). They would have to eat some dead money after they cut Fleener as well (he's under contract through 2020).

I don't know why we sign "big time" FAs.

Most I could see us doing would be to give up our 27 for Landry & their 42.

Lol. Cooks is a better player? You're high. How many pro bowls has he been to?

I didn't think about that. That would be a good deal for both teams if we can get Landry to sign for a reasonable price.

I'm not saying that I want it to happen, & I'm not saying that I don't want it to happen. Just saying that the value looks decent if we're not paying Landry like 14 mil or more a year.

While I don't agree that pro bowls are the end all measurement, I think it's important to note that one has had Brees and Brady throwing to him and the other Tannehil and Cutler. And yet your argument still stand with Landry a 3x pro bowler and Cooks a big ole goose egg.

Just get Jordan Matthews. Solid slot receiver and he’s a big bodied wr that can solve some of your TE issues

It would actually work out in 2018, b/c the 1st year of the contract is always the lowest (at least it seems that way with Loomis). The main problem would be the 3rd year of Landry's contract. It's going to be a very big number, & we also have to sign Michael Thomas to a big contract that year (Peat as well, b/c we'll use the 5th year option on him in 2019). As long as the FO can handle that situation...I'm ok with it.

Look at Warford's contract. 4 years, 34 mil.

2017 - 3.8 mil
2018 - 9.0 mil
2019 - 10.6 mil
2020 - 10.6 mil

Last off-season I would have been all out for this potential acquisition. But the way the Saints are currently structured. I am not paying a huge contract when you'll have to pay more important players within Landry's contract length.

If he signs a long-term deal, it'll be around 4/5 years. Lets say 5.

Saints players who's contract will be up and need to be paid while owing money to Landry (dont forget the huge cap hit Drew's contract will give when he retires within 5 years):

2020
Andrus Peat, Michael Thomas, Vonn Bell, David Onymata

2021
Cam Jordan, Larry Warford, Sheldon Rankins, Marcus Williams, Alvin Kamara

2022
Terron Armstead, Marshon Lattimore, Ryan Ramczyk

Lots of money will need to be handed out to keep every one of those players with Thomas, Lattimore, Kamara, Jordan, Ramczyk, & Peat being must keeps.

For future cap concerns, I will pass on Landry
