Here was what Sean Payton had to say about Malcolm Jenkins after the Saints beat the Eagles in the 2018 regular season.

quote:

Luke Johnson @ByLukeJohnson
If you remember, this was the game where TV cameras caught Jenkins flipping Sean Payton the bird after Alvin Kamara beat him for a touchdown (on fourth down, late in the game with the Saints up big). After the game, Jenkins said, "I love Sean to death."

Mike Triplett @MikeTriplett
Sean Payton, confirming that Saints are close to a deal with Malcolm Jenkins: "Should have never let him leave to begin with." ... Payton has never made any secret about how much he wishes the Saints could have that one back.

I also think Bell, Lattimore and Williams tend to play with a lack of confidence and get down on themselves too much, which influences their play. They get flustered too easily. Jenkins could bring that down some, help calm them down and play like they know how. We don’t really have a leader in the secondary.

We do on DL and LB but Williams and Bell aren’t alpha dogs like Jenkins. Lattimore has that in him but he’s not a vocal leader.

Jenkins is flat out a better player than vonn Bell. People are romanticizing bell for his fumble recoveries this year, but only 2 of those were ones he forced and he’s never had more than 2 FF in a season. He’s not some FF machine.

Jenkins constantly took bad angles during his tenure here.

That was 7 years ago. Malcom improved dramatically as a player with the eagles.

To be fair, so did PRob, and that hasn't quite worked out.

Just a devil's advocate because I think MJ is a good player and I'm fine with this signing.

He played well in 2018 until he broke his ankle and had surgery. That’s when PJ stepped up and PRob took a step back

Well hell sounds just like Vonn. I’d be in but I need Jefferson with that pick.

With us signing Jenkins, I think we push for an extension with Janoris Jenkins to get his cap number lowered so we can sign PJ back for depth.

Then I think we spend our first rounder on a WR and our third on an OL to compete with Easton. Just my gut. I wish we would take a LB but I think they’re going to roll with Davis, Kiko and Anzalone and pray Anzalone stays healthy.

At this stage I’d rather have Bell over Jenkins. He’s so damn good against the run and gives the defense that hard hitting safety in the box that sets the tone. Sean loves Jenkins though so now we get to watch Bell play against us twice a year in Carolina. Really thought he was coming into his own last year and now the Panthers will reap the benefits of his prime years while we have Jenkins on the downside of his career. I’ll be interested to see what both players sign for. It’s time for CGJ to step up now.

That’s why we have CGJ. Jenkins is much better in coverage than Bell as well

The last 4 seasons/since Vonn entered the NFL:

Jenkins (4230 snaps)
83.2 OVR grade
90.8 Cov. grade
77.1 Run Def. grade
60.3 Pass Rush grade

Bell (3452 snaps)
68.9 OVR grade
56.3 Cov. grade
90.2 Run Def. grade
80.7 Pass Rush Grade

That is comparing a veteran's prime to a young player's 1st 4 years. I think if you look at last year it is a lot closer.

Bell gone people. But think of it like this, we may get a 4th or 5th comp pick for Bell and Jenkins was cut so it doesn’t hurt the comp pick formula. I would think Jenkins will be cheaper than Bell also.
Does Jenkins count as a "cut" player since the Eagles chose not to exercise his option or does that throw him into a free agent category?

Word is they want Chris Harris too. Where will all these guys play? Harris is a slot corner only he doesn’t play outside and the slot s where CGJ played. With Jenkins on board you have to think he and Williams are the starting safeties so where does that leave CGJ if Harris is signed?

Eagles definitely need secondary help. And WR help.
