Jared Cook contract details: 2 years, $15M, $6M signing bonus and $8M guaranteed (all in the first year)

There's a third year added to spread out the cap hit, but it's due to void sometime before the second day of the 2021 league year.

2019 cap hit: $4M

Tells us about how our organization changed. We went from overpaying shitty free agents, to guys wanting to come here and taking reasonable deals that doesn't hurt the teams cap.

Tre Boston interesting. Versatile safety, started 28 games past 2 years. Can be a nice 3rd guy back there.

I do miss our 3 safety sets that worked well for us in the past. If nothing else it never hurts having secondary depth and package versatility.

I'd still like to have Suh, but I know that's an unpopular opinion here. I'm guessing he winds up back in LA, but I'm hoping he goes elsewhere. Anything that weakens the Rams is good IMO.

Either player would be excellent depth but they're probably looking to start.

Only reason we played 3 safeties is because Vaccaro couldn't play a true safety position. He played the majority in nickel and some as a box safety (like a smaller/faster OLB).

We have zero need to go this route now. Neither Williams nor Bell excell in man so it makes zero sense to play a third. We only had 3 safeties on 8% of the snaps last year (compared to 3 CBs on 72% and 3 LBs on 20%).

So unless we get another "safety" like Vaccaro, another guy would just be insurance (which isn't bad if they come cheap).

If we got a guy like Boston, it'd be akin to having Coleman last year. Someone is going to be sitting most of the time barring injury (turned out to be the overly expensive guy sitting) because none of them can consistently play nickel like Vaccaro could.

Don't need more interior guys. We are in desperate need of a backup OT given Armstead's injury history. Peat is his current backup and that means line shuffling.

Top needs imo:

Backup LT (given Armstead's injury history)
Another DE to rotate (need a legit 4th)
Backup slot CB (Crawley ain't slot)

Another guy at S and LB would be nice for depth/injury insurance but isn't a need.

agree but the OT FA market is a barren wasteland at the moment. That is most likely a draft pick consideration.

Definitely not opposed to spending the second (or moving up with it) for a legit OT and moving on from Armstead next year.

But the interior already has its 4 (we don't take more than 4 OG/OCs combined into the season save for special cases). We actually have 5 guys if they don't feel like they can sneak Clapp on the PS.

I think Derek Newton is currently our 3rd OT (not counting Peat) and we keep 4 usually. That should be pretty scary.

Curious to know but not a big deal, OTC shows us with half a mil less ($9.9 mil) if you factor in the $4 mil for Cook (and adding Cook, both sites have at 60 so not a missing player). Wonder what the discrepancy is. Maybe OTC has the rookie pool factored in?

Also yeah with the way they are doing to contracts, it's more than what I thought we'd have (didn't expect Teddy's to be spread, nor Cook's). The $2-3 mil first year hits were expected as that seems like a Loomis MO.

So with about $4-5 mil to play with (needing to hold about $5-6 mil in reserve for the start of the season), I wonder if we'll target 2 more mid level FAs before the draft.
