Yeah if that was the case then they should have worked something for the #15 pick. What's keeping the Chargers from trading there.

If you go by the draft value chart, it would only take a 3rd to move up to 15. so strange

Not just the Eagles double dipping but the Jets and especially Texans could probably both by talked into moving back their 2nd 1st rd to 17.

If we are drafting in mid to late 20's next year it's a genius move.

No its not.

Win now trade when we definitely aren't contendors.

Absurd.

We were 1 win away from the playoffs in a season where we started a 3rd & 4th string QB for several games, were missing our best receiver all year, our best RB for a few games and both tackles for several games.

This defense is Super Bowl caliber, Winston with Thomas back and hopefully a solid #2, and no more ridiculous fluke injuries like last year, and we make a run.

That is a hell of a lot to give up to take Corral

This trade a month before the draft makes absolutely no sense

Why not? Price goes up when the board shakes out and multiple treats are vying for a guy

Our scouting department knows these guys and we are obviously have a plan with these picks

1) We got worse this offseason, maybe significantly worse, so it seems strange to make an all in move

Right

People keep talking about how bad the rest of the division got, but ignoring that we are objectively worse also.

And then proceeded to lose the best HC in our history, and two probowl players, while making mostly "bargain" moves in FA.

We certainly didn't act like a team going "all-in" in Free Agency outside of the Watson interest. So why go all in Draft wise but not FA wise?

Worry about showing our hand too early like with Mahomes

Well we have two 1st rounders now this year.

Not sure if those NFL Draft Value Charts mean anything but I was surprised to see that picks 16 & 19 have enough value on the chart to get into the top 4 or 5...does that sound realistic at all?

I'm not saying we would or that's why we did it, but it just got me curious.

You would think.

Its just an odd move all around, and I hope it works out.

Someone on other thread made a great point about trading Payton next year to recoup

I hear you but that should be irrelevant to this trade.

That's not a reason to make what appears to be a bad deal. We could not make a bad deal AND trade Payton next year too, that seems even better.

Generally speaking no. The value of top 6ish picks has absolutely gone insane the past few years. But those have been in QB-centric drafts, and this one is not that. So value may be suppressed.

So we gained extra first in a weak draft class

The only weak position in this draft class is the QB's. This is one of the best drafts for OL, WR and DL which we have a need for in all 3. I guess this means we are all in with Winston for the next 2 years.

Agree. Technically a 2nd and 3rd for extra first this year and 1st next year likely worse than we got extra this year.
It's not likely to be lower next year.

In fact, the opposite. It's likely to fall in the top 15 next year.

And if Winston gets hurt and shite goes off the rails, that pick could be much higher.

We are only losing essentially a 2nd rounder in 2024. We swap this year for next year first and the 3rd is a compensatory pick. I’m not freaking out. This seems like a draft day pick if someone is sitting there that you like. It is a little head scratching that you do it in advance of the draft.

That’s the most concerning part to me. Another injury to Winston, MT etc and it could be top 10 easily

I think you are confused. The Saints traded 18 and moved up two spots to 16. They also acquired 19. They had to give up 18, a future 1st, 2nd, and a 3rd round pick to move up two spots and acquire a 2nd 1st.

We are saying the same thing

There’s no order of operations here, the trade involved a pick swap (for lack of a better word) between 18 and 19. Those two assets are near identical in value, so the trade is much easier to understand if you just ignore it and look at the rest of the trade. I’m not discounting that at all, the cost they paid to get the extra first this year is accounted for.

You’re saying the exact same thing as me, just in a more convoluted way
