Well, since he's getting traded and not a FA, he doesn't really get a lot of say. You want out? Be prepared to be sent to a team that best benefits the Saints, not you.

And Butler is not elite. He's very good in the NE scheme. Why not pay Bulter instead of getting Gilmore?

Yeah that definitely is curious

Cooks has 1 cheap year left. I don't know why people keep saying two

Butler would be the best defensive back on our team. Cooks on a given day is sonetines our 3rd best WR. See how that trade could balance our team?

I like the idea of swapping picks. But we aren't netting their first along with butler without giving something else. How delusional are our fans, Jesus.

So the Pats signed another corner and are paying him top dollar but didn't want to pay top dollar to this guy who's been on their team for years...hmmm

Well it's more than just that, which is why I'm against it (nothing to do with the Pat's).

Butler is an asset that has trade value. So if you sign a great FA replacement while turning him into another starter, that seems like a no brainer.

Not a whole lot of difference than the thread where I mentioned the idea of franchised Trumaine Johnson.

It's basically that one year difference of cheaper contract. Butler + #32 sounds good.

Cooks doesn't really have a choice on who he gets traded to.

Why do people keep saying Butler is an elite corner? He's not. He's good but not great. I just keep questioning why Belicheck is willing to part with a young corner. It's obvious he thinks Gilmore is better. Hoping it works out if it goes down

Butler is definitely an elite corner. Also he's a locker room cancer.
Not saying this isn't so, but i've never heard of this. Any links or anything to show this?

Also, it's not like Brandin Cooks isn't a cancer, considering it seems our WR corp hates him.

Because his option is below the market value for a player of his caliber.

Cool.

But it isn't just a Cooks vs Butler debate. I'd take Butler over him too.

It's what can we get for Cooks + other ways of addressing the corner position.

He's calling Cooks a cancer, he just wasn't clear about it

I think a general rule across the NFL should be that you just should not trade with Bellichick. He will win

No, that isn't obvious and a jump in logic.

Also, they have $50m in cap space. They can have 2 great corners

Did Arizona lose the Chandler Jones trade?

What is losing a trade even mean? Both teams can benefit. They have a core few guys that they pay and see everyone else as assets that can be moved

We aren't the only one's saying it, Lester. But yes, Cooks has high value right now.

Either way, the Saints hold all the cards. No reason to rush into a trade when 3 teams are will to fight each other.

I know he doesn't. But it just seems pointless going somewhere else where your situation will be the same if not worse for you. It's not much benefit for him but at this point I don't care about his happiness. just seems pointless on his end

Like another posted stated...Butler has trade value at this point so why not pick up, I would say an equal CB, and then trade the one you have? Who knows, Saints/Pats could have had a deal in place which is why they picked up Gilmore. It was originally said the Pats were willing to part ways with the 32nd pick and the Saints declined. Perhaps, The Pats upped the ante by adding Butler to the mix?

Good point. Butler was also tendered at 1st round grade. They like him, but want cooks more than keeping him, I guess. I still am weary.

Slightly below market value, if at all. That isn't "cheap". What he'll make this year is cheap. Both years can't be cheap if his salary increases 3x-4x over in the 5th year.

As far as addressing CB in a different manner Re: Talib I think th goal is to not give away picks. Or at least I'd hope they learn their lesson from that
