Revisiting Butler: This year should we?

He had a rough start, but he's turned it around.
PFF: 82.0 grade, 21st ranked, 1 penalty, 7 games
Crawley has played well, but the # of penalties is going to catch up to us sooner or later. He's currently at 5, 2 were on 3rd downs, in 6 games.
With 35mil in cap, we're likely to spend 25mil in space on Brees, Vaccaro, Snead, Coleman, Kelemete, and Breaux. I think Okafor is the odd man out, someone is gonna throw $$$.
That leaves us with 10mil, enough for a big name and a few complementary pieces (not including cuttable players: stupar, strief, fleener, etc).

Nope. Lattimore, Crawley, Breaux (if he comes back) Williams, Harris, Moore...we've got good depth at CB. Spend the money elsewhere, like LB, DT, Edge rusher, WR, or TE

Id rather use that money to re-sign Okafor. Its looking more and more like Kikaha wont be around much longer. Tired of rotating guys in at that spot every year...scrape up some money and re-sign him.

Keepers: Brees, Vaccaro, Snead, Kelemente, Okafor
They will not re-up for Coleman unless he goes bonkers and honestly I believe Breaux's fate is sealed w/ the emergence of Crawley. Also PJ Williams isn't terrible and all of them are more durable than Breaux at this point.

Butler wouldn't start on this team when everyone is healthy. I do not understand the love affair...the dude gets burned like Waffle House toast. Doesn't impress me.

Actually 4 games. He didn't play the first two. So more than one a game.
On Butler, I was so bent on getting him because I thought there was no way in hell Lattimore would fall to us. He was the one guy I thought could come in and play at a high level right away. Even then, with rookies you never know.
But no at this point I'd rather roll with Crawley and see if Breaux can return to form. The asking price is too high and he'll need to get paid. I was okay with that when we didn't have a number one corner. We do now.

He's owed 18 million next year not even under contract. Brees is going to cost us about 35-40 million

Only if he hits FA, and $6 mil of that is already counting.
He may cost us around $24-26 mil more, so $30-32 mil total if we extend him before.
If he hits FA we are kind of fricked with signing a big QB.

Cap Space =/= cost.
I trust Loomis to fix that up. It still allows us a good bit of space

How could I forget Harris being active and him not. Whoops.
Either way, makes it worse. Lol
Vs green bay was a big reason why he could be a liability.

He’s a 2nd year guy that hasn’t even come close to full potential....
..and he was covering Jordy Nelson on a shitty field.
He actually did a heck of a job
And he will only get better

yo, what waffle house do you go to? I always have to ask them to burn it or it comes back as barely toast.

I honestly feel the contract Brees will demand is tied to this years results.
We go 11-5 and win the division he asks for a 18 mil. Per year contract
We go 7-9 and he asks for 25 mil per year.
We are only two pieces away from greatness. A middle linebacker and playmaking tight end

We need a legit edge rusher, a DT, a safety, offensive line depth, and another LBer before we address CB.

Ansah is the only available edge that I saw on the 2018 FA list that would potentially make a difference.
Will have to draft one.
DT / Dontari Poe having a good year?
Draft OL
Draft another S
Of the 2018 still available:
Kam Chancellor
Thomas Davis (another LB stopgap)
Ansah
Jimmah Graham
