Is it a good idea to wholesale rest the starters for the Carolina game? I understand about the need for rest, healing, etc. and the risk of injury but it would be 3 weeks before first playoff game and the starters could be rusty. You can’t afford to spend the first half knocking the rust off.

Maybe the starters should play the first half and then make wholesale substitutions? It would also be nice to sweep the Panthers two years in a row!

I’d treat it like preseason game 3. Let the starters have a series or two and then shut it down.

This would be my approach too except for guys with nagging injuries like Armstead and Davenport

This is going to be a tough call for Payton and the Coaching Staff. They'll figure it out.

I look for Drew (last time he was inactive) to be active with having Taysom and Teddy ready to go. I think he will play to get 4,000 yards and then exit to a standing O. Teddy will det a lot of playing time. The rest that need rest will get it and we will still beat Carolina!

Ramczyk
Thomas
Unger
Armstead
Ginn

Cam Jordan
Demario Davis
Lattimore

Yes... because the o line. The o line needs rest in a big way. That being said, do you want Drew and the starters in behind a back up line?? I do not

There's another thread already but Bridgewater is starting, expect more of the same for the rest of the team

Bridgewater gets the start

Brees has just a bit more to get to 4k yards this year and was hoping for a pass or two but at the same time not a big deal.

Only can rest so many starters though, depending on depth at the position.

You gotta rest the ones that need it due to lingering injuries. That'd be:

Armstead - pec
Peat - leg
Smith - leg
Davenport - foot
Ramcyzk - leg

Then you gotta sit the ones that you cannot risk not having in the playoffs

Brees
Unger
Thomas
Ingram
Kamara
Jordan
Rankins
Davis
Lattimore

That'd leave the remaining starters:
Ginn - you'd likely give him some playing time to get back in shape
Warford - its just an OL thing at this point
Onyemata/Davison - i think it'll be fine
Anzalone - is he injury prone enough?
Apple, Williams, Bell - all doesn't matter

I hope we don't do that. Hell I wish we could sign a bunch of oline off the street and let the starters all rest.

I’m trying to figure out how resting the o-line starters would work. Bushrod, Clapp, Tom...and some tight ends?

It’s fine to rest them. Let’s be honest, we haven’t exactly been in a rhythm on offense, so I can’t see how it could hurt.
