In your scenario, if another team shows interest, would make sense to try to move Rattler and keep your backup on a controlled contract for 3 more years. Of course, if they are looking similar, Shough may have “more value” due to the extra year.
And if neither has value in the trade market, the cap hit to cut Rattler is only $170k to cut him next offseason after using him as a camp arm

Maybe next time we will hire a HC who actually played the position.
Plenty of coaches out there that can’t judge talent to save their lives.
Plenty of gms for that matter too. Including this team.

I think it’s ridiculous to not call him by the age he actually is, until he isn’t. Proves you have an agenda too.
I disagree with this, he turns 26 at the very beginning of the season. If he starts, it’ll be later in the season and the graphic they pull up will say 26.

That’s your opinion which will eventually be proven correct or incorrect. It’s a fact that Wentz or whoever else suck and offer no value.
That’s your opinion and you have also been proven wrong. This board said the exact same thing about Baker not long ago, and then he just led the NFC in passing tds. Same with Darnold.

Flacco or Teddy B was floating out there. This wasn’t the year to draft a qb.
Especially with a top 40 pick.
We will be doing the same next draft
this guy fricking gets it
Neither one of you fricking get it. If you don't have a QB then you draft a QB every year until you find one. What you don't do is waste playing time and training time on a vet who will never ever be the answer. We aren't a team with a top end roster and expectations to be competitive on the playoffs. That's the only scenario where yalls POV doesn't sounds dumb as shite.
quote:What it does mean is that he should be more starter ready than 21-22 y/o. No one will give a frick if he only plays 6-10 years if we are contending for 6-10 years. What it does mean is that we don't have to deal with a mediocre season from a 21 y/o with a blind hope that they will get better the following year and by default waste another season. The Shough pick is a now or never move.
what it does mean is that the timeline for him to be a productive player is much, much shorter than someone who is 21, 22...
I would much rather pick Shough and see if it works > end up like Carolina and ride with Bryce Young for several years into mediocrity until they inevitably move on.

Yea, the bucs are now paying mayfield $30mm/year, have and aging core, and are a middle of the pack team in the nfc. Sounds great.

I really don’t think you get it. Majority of the time you don’t know what you have at qb for at least the first two years. Yiu going to keep drafting one high every year while the rest of the team erodes or remains arse?
Chargers gave up on Brees early and look what happened to him. His hard to find out what you have after one year. It takes time and resources to develop them. Your way and we get the shite show you seeing now. Three young QBs that don’t have a clue.
The smart play would have been to see what you have in Rattler, sign a super cheap vet to compete with him and Haener and then pick at the top from a much better qb class next year.
Along with adding a Mason Taylor, Mike Green, Ezeriku or Troy Amos to the roster.

Didn’t they win the division like the last 5 years in a row and win some playoff games ?
Did we even accomplish that with Brees? What a stupid argument when they winning the division again while our fans are wearing paper bags by the end of the year.

I thought just winning the division was a dumb goal. That’s what people always said on here.
The Bucs have no shot at winning the Super Bowl

i've seen and heard a lot of dumb shite on this site... but this one is certainly up there...

this i agree with... and considering what we are hearing, it's very much trending never, a lot more than it is "now".... he's struggling with pressure vs. his own team, in practice... going vs. other teams, in real games, it's not going to get better...
i'd LOVE, absolutely LOVE, and i'd readily admit it, to be wrong about him... but so far, everything we've been hearing only seems to confirm exactly what scouts said about him... that he's not good with pressure and has bad habits when he feels that pressure, leading to stalled drives and/or turnovers...

Evans, Godwin, David, Vea are all nearing 30 or over. They’re paying a mid QB $30mm, their win total is 9.5 and they have the 8th best Super Bowl odds in the NFC.
They’re exactly what the saints tried to do with Carr that we all hated

exactly!
it's a double killer, b/c we didn't get better at another position with that pick AND we still gonna have to use high draft capital at that position in the next draft... how people don't see this, i have no idea... blind optimism is the only logical conclusion i can arrive at

except it's working out for them, a lot more than it did for us... and at most positions, i'd take their roster over ours in a fricking heartbeat

Damn you guys are smart. What the hell do you two do for a living?

Working out how? They’re not winning the Super Bowl. It was a stupid plan for the saints and it’s stupid for the bucs.
Hang the division title banners though I guess

They have a high potent offense and if their pass rush improves they'll be better.
Their secondary minus Winfield Jr to me is suspect.
If it all comes together in Year 3 like rebuilds are supposed to be then okay.
This has been such a horrible division and they have had to wait until the last week of each of the last few seasons to actually clinch it.
I do credit their general manager. He's clearly doing a better job than any of the other GM's in our division but what about The rest of the NFC North? Maybe a handful of teams from the NFC West? And now even a few teams from the nfc East?
I don't know about all of that l.

well, for starters i don't walk around with my head up my arse, refusing to see reality, unlike many here apparently...
look, if the reports coming out of camp were that he was lighting it the frick up, and was clearly the #1 QB in camp, i'd be on board with him, just as you apparently are... but that's not the case... we are getting multiple reports, from people at these practices, that he has bad footwork and habits when the pressure is dialed up... so, again, what do you think he's going to look like in live NFL games, when they are throwing EVERYTHING at him, including blitzes, stunts, disguised coverage packages, etc?? you think he's magically going to be better?
