A cheap Garropolo is exactly the type of starting QB this team should have as it sheds itself of the terrible contracts.

Would not be a bad backup for cheap, but he is suspended for the first 2 games of the season too

why do we want him? think about it - the Raiders punted Carr to get Jimmy G, and release him a year later? the Raiders aren't in the best position to be picky on QB's, so there must be a reason outside of the 2 game suspension.

--A BACKUP QB, a QB2, with considerable starting experience.
--A 43-20 record in the regular season as a starter (LV 3-3, SF 38-17, NE 2-0). 94TD-51INT with avg QBR 97.6.
--A 4-2 post season record (though he didn't have great games in playoffs. 4-6 TD/INT, avg QBR 74.1)
--Backup QB contracts thus far about 1yr/$5M guaranteed worth up to about $8.75M with incentives. His suspension probably cuts about $1M off guarantees I'd imagine

The only issue is whether he’d be a good teammate. There was friction between him and Brady in NE but he was a lot younger then

you are making some assumptions there
1) would he be willing to be a backup and take backup money? i would be willing to say no, but stranger things have happened.
2) can he stay healthy if he had to come in a play?
i mean - if he came in as a backup I certainly would not be unhappy, I just feel like with the Raiders sending him packing so soon after they got him, there has to be more to it than just the 2 game suspension.

Obviously yes I'm assuming that if the Saints were to sign him it would be for the back-up QB job, not to compete for QB1 against $100M+ Carr, and that would be well communicated to him prior to him getting to the desk and being shocked to see an offer of a $4M -$5M contract
No need to fret, we've signed freaking Nathan Peterman, of whom I don't even understand how he's still in the league unless he's got the mind of a coach in the making that helps the starters and WRs behind the scenes

honestly, I have no idea - but it is immaterial now as we signed.....someone.
someone will be willing to give jimmy G a spot, and even if as a backup - it would have been more than what we would have offered
