Thankfully, this guy has been with us for years.

My question is why does he never get brought up for HC gigs? He’s basically a no-name OC with the rest of the league and media. Dennis Allen seems to get more publicity than Pete does.

I’m not asking for him to be hired elsewhere just curious as to the reason.

What are y’alls thoughts in this?

Pete may be too timid for ahead coaching job, Allen has been a head coach before.

He does look like he’s scared of his own shadow.

He also has the look of “I need a Kleenex.”

"sneaky pete"

Needs to let Taysom throw the damn ball.
I got some plays I wanna see Sneaky Pete Call.

Kamara - Flea Flicker to Taysom Hill, (Harris in running a wheel route Full jets on)

Hill - Snaps the ball, acts like hes goin to run it and hill throws it to hill or cook in the end zone.

Brees Snaps the ball Pitches it to hill, who hits M. Ginn down the after the Safety bites.

I don’t think he has any ambition to become one to be honest

He will never be a head coach
It just is what it is

Always the coordinator, never the coach.

He doesn’t fit the leader of men, alpha male persona or stereotype, so he doesn’t get the opportunity.

Yeah you gotta ask in the history of the league, and even in the NCAA, how many head coaches have looked like him (an egghead).

And of those how many have been successful.

Is it an unfair bias? Of course. But it's also the reality of it.

And I think it's furthered because you rarely see Ol' Petey Boy fired up on the sidelines (especially don't see it after mistakes) or hear about him getting on people at practice.

He's like the quiet, strategist type coach.

he only got a little attention when payton was suspended and then injured, beyond that he is the invisible man and rightfully so, payton and brees get all the credit for our offense.

whether he can be an OC for any other team is questionable and thats not very good if you are a team looking to turn a franchise around so he isnt earning any interest is why he isnt getting any.

Didn't he run something similar to this a few weeks ago. Wasn't near the goalline, but the play sets up similar to your design.

Damn some of y'all are harsh! Hell, I didn't really know who Sean Payton was or his personality when we hired him. I remember being somewhat disappointed watching his post hire press conference.

But if Carmichael does have ambition to take the next step, he needs to break away from Payton. Payton gets all the offensive credit here and rightfully so. If Pete ever wants to be the HC, he should try to get hired by one of the defensive minded HC's so he can have the reigns of the offense.

Because Sean Payton is the offense and Carmichael is a clipboard holder. If that weren't true then he would have gotten a job by now.

But then you are taking a HUGE gamble that you actually have good players at the new job, have real control over the offense (including hiring the assistants you want and large input on offensive players drafted and signed), and that you are actually that good of an OC without a first ballot GoAT Hall of Famer at the helm.

If it doesn't go well you now have to take a demotion with another potentially bad team and try to work your way back up.

Or you could stay here with a very safe job with a very good offense and a great organization.

Allen got lucky that Payton was upset with Ryan at the right time, or else he might be coaching DBs somewhere right now, or out of the league.

Pete might not get that lucky. So if he takes that chance he better damn sure believe in himself AND the situation he goes to.

And if he does I wish him all the best unless it's with a division rival or top NFC contender.

Pete and family love New Orleans. He’s had young kids who have have moved on to college but has one left in middle/high school. Only job I saw him taking was San Diego but that’s long gone.

Pete is not a flashy guy, he doesn’t need the lime light like other dudes need.

He might be happy coming up with the plays but leaving the disicpline to hard coaches. he would be like a Jim Tressel type coach, very mild manner. As long as his team is doing well the players would listen, but once adversity strike, you need someone to get in players faces and head to make sure they can't think of anything else.

Pete does not seem like he can do that. In fact when Sean was suspended he lead us to an 7-9 Season.

Vitt took over HC duties once his suspension was over.

Kromer went 0-4 to start and then won 2 before Vitt came back. Vitt went 5-5.

How many play sheets his he calling plays from, or even holding during a game?

That’s how many head coaching jobs he’ll get.

Knowing some people that know him i'm told hes one of the few guys who Sean really listens too. His main job on gameday is to be the calming influence who talks Sean out of doing flea flickers and triple reverses every play.
