I have 38 guys that I consider locks.

QB(1) - Brees
RB(2) - Ingram, Kamara
FB(1) - Line
WR(4) - Thomas, Ginn, Meredith, Tre'Quan Smith
TE(1) - Ben Watson
OT(3) - Armstead, Ramczyk, Rick Leonard
OC/OG(4) - Unger, Warford, Peat, Bushrod
K, P, LS(3) - Lutz, Morstead, Zach Wood
DT(3) - Rankins, Davison, Onyemata
DE(4) - Jordan, Okafor, Davenport, Hendrickson
LB(5) - Davis, Klein, Anzalone, Robertson, Te'o
CB(4) - Lattimore, Crawley, PRob, PJ Williams
S(3) - Marcus Williams, Bell, Kurt Coleman

Which guys do you think win the following position battles?

#2/#3 QB - Choose 2
-Savage, Taysom Hill, JT Barrett

#3/#4 RB - Choose 2
-Boston Scott, Lasco, Trey Edmunds, Jonathan Williams

#5/maybe #6 WR - Choose 1 or 2
-Coleman, Carr, Tommylee, Josh Huff, Travin Dural, Paul Turner, Keith Kirkwood, Dan Arnold

#2/#3 TE - Choose 2
-Fleener, Hill, Hooman, Garrett Griffin, Deon Yelder, Nate Wozniak, Alex Ellis

#5/maybe #6 Interior O-Line - Choose 1 or 2. Peat can play LT & Bushrod can play RT, so the OT position is fine.
-Cameron Tom, John Fullington, Landon Turner, Will Clapp, Cory Helms, Nate Theaker, Andrew Tiller, Maea Teuhema, Daronte Bouldin

#4 DT - Choose 1
-Mitchell Loewen, Taylor Stallworth, Woodrow Hamilton, DeVaroe Lawrence, Tashon Smallwood (still not 100% sure we signed him though)

#5/maybe #6 DE - Choose 1 or 2
-Kikaha, Muhammad, George Johnson, Henry Mondeaux, Alex Jenkins

#6/maybe #7 LB - Choose 1 or 2
-Stupar, Mauti, Jayrone Elliot, Bighill, Shayne Skov, Sae Tautu, Colton Jumper

#5/maybe #6 CB - Choose 1 or 2. We, most likely, keep Hardee for special teams imo.
-Hardee, Maulet, Natrell Jamerson, Kamrin Moore, DeVante Harris, Linden Stephens, Bradley Sylve

#4/maybe #5 Safety - Choose 1 or 2. We, most likely, keep Banjo for special teams imo.
-Banjo, Natrell Jamerson, Kamrin Moore, Rickey Jefferson, Mykkele Thompson, JT Gray

QB - Savage as #2, & Taysom Hill as #3. I'm assuming that the loser between Hill & JT Barrett goes to the PS.

RB - Boston Scott as the #3, & Lasco as the #4. Lasco & Edmunds will be battling it out for a spot on special teams. I'm assuming the loser goes to the PS.

WR - Coleman as the #5. If we keep 6 WR's...I'm assuming Carr is that guy. I wouldn't be surprised if Carr beats out Coleman, but Coleman is the more known quantity going into training camp.

TE - Fleener as the #2, & Hill as the #3. Obviously Hooman at least has a chance. Deon Yelder is very interesting as well. I'm just not quite convinced that we'll end up cutting Fleener. I wouldn't complain if we did though.

OC/OG - Cameron Tom as the #5. CSP said that Clapp will be tried out at OC, so he has to beat out Tom to make the team. If we do keep a 6th interior OL...it will definitely be an OG. I really don't see anyone that stands out from the group, so I won't even try to guess.

DT - Taylor Stallworth as the #4. Obviously, Loewen has a pretty good chance to make the team. Stallworth & Yelder are the 2 udfa's that I'm excited about.

DE - Muhammad as the #5, & George Johnson as the #6 (if we keep that many). I doubt that we keep both Kikaha & Muhammad this year, so whoever loses that pass rush battle gets cut imo. George Johnson can give you a good spot start as our base 4-3 DE.

LB - Stupar as the #6, & Jayrone Elliot as the #7. We could save some money by cutting Stupar, but he's easily the best LB in this group & he plays special teams. If we keep 7 LB's...it's probably going to be a guy that plays special teams. I'll guess that Elliot (he was signed for the purpose of playing special teams) beats out Mauti.

CB - Maulet as the #5, & Hardee as the #6. Hardee is all special teams. Natrell Jamerson is supposed to start out by playing outside CB, but I'm guessing that he winds up at Safety. I'll take Maulet over Kamrin Moore, b/c Maulet plays outside & Kamrin Moore is a nickel/slot guy. PJ Williams is the backup nickel, but we really don't have a backup CB on the outside (PJ can play outside, but he's better in the slot).

S - Natrell Jamerson as the #4, & Banjo as the #5. Banjo is all special teams. Jamerson & Kamrin Moore can both play Safety. I'm assuming those 2 are going to be competing for that #4 spot. My money is on Jamerson.

*I don't have CB/S Kamrin Moore making the team, b/c of the numbers. If he ends up being legit in the pre-season...I'm assuming that we'll find a way to keep him on the team. Same goes for TE Deon Yelder as well.

Fleener will not be the number 2.
Hill is a lock. They like him and he can block

Thanks for the post Gmoney. Will comment more later. On my IPad. After seeing both Philly and Minnesota succeed with their number 1 QB going down it really make me think about this position.

We keep saying if Brees goes down we are screwed. Are we? Do we have someone on the roster than can use the skilled players or is the drop off just too much of a gap?

I'd be willing to wager Okafor is on ir with designation to return to start the year

When did we pick up Rickey Jefferson? I like his athleticism.

QB - Agree, Savage and Hill. - also interested in seeing the kid from Troy compete for the PS spot.

RB - Agree, Scott and Lasco, unless someone else makes an impression. And the edge goes to Lasco because of special teams

WR - Carr then Coleman. Also find myself pulling for Kirkwood instead of Coleman

TE - This could go any number of ways. Watson is a lock. We need to upgrade and continue the youth movement. Yelder is interesting and I want to pull for the tall kid, but... Fleener, Hill and Hooman. I don't know yet.

OC/OG - Cameron Tom or Clapp

DT - Loewen. But now you have me curious about Stallworth.

DE - Muhammad

LB - Stupar worries me with injuries, so, Elliot and continuing with the youth movement I say Jumper.

CB - Maulet & Hardee, I can dig that. Also not convinced PJ Williams is a lock.

S - Natrell Jamerson & Kamrin Moore and they can both double as CBs .

I think our WR unit will be so legit with Thomas, Ginn, Meredith, Smith and Carr that we can gamble on TE and roll with Watson, Fleener (only because of his contract) and a rookie. Either the short one or the tall one.

from the get-go I've always bashed Fleener but when he got hurt and missed half the season last year that didn't "help" anything. He had a few key catches against the Redskins in the 4th quarter and they ended up being a crucial part of that comeback win. Just because he became less featured doesn't mean he can't help the team in spot duty.

I'm not sold on Ben Watson being able to drink from the fountain of youth again like he did a few years ago. To be fair.. i was dead wrong about Watson that year but being wrong was awesome and I even owned Watson on my fantasy team that year (CSB).

Deon Yelder is very interesting as well.

Technically, Kamrin Moore can beat him out for the backup slot guy. Personally I think PJ Williams makes the team, but much stranger things have happened though.

As of right now...PJ Williams is the backup for the slot & both CB's on the outside. He just needs to have his jobs taken from him.

He was a top 10 TE last year with Flacco throwing to him. He was great for us in 2015, on IR in 2016, top 10 TE for the Ravens in 2017. I'm going believe in him until he gives me a reason not to. His age is going to catch up with him eventually...I just hope it's not in 2018.

Around February. He, Paul Turner, & a few other guys were signed to futures contracts. These are the main acquisitions before free agency starts.

Unfortunately, that wouldn't surprise me. The Davenport pick would make a lot more sense if the coaches felt the same way about Okafor.

I've already completely accepted the Davenport pick, but this might sway some other people.

You 2 guys as locks that I wouldn't consider locks. Not saying they won't make the team, but they aren't locks, IMO.

quote:

OT(3) - Rick Leonard
CB(4) - PJ Williams

Assuming you're right on the locks, though:

quote:

#2/#3 QB - Choose 2
-Savage, Taysom Hill, JT Barrett (To PS)

#3/#4 RB - Choose 2
-Boston Scott, Lasco, Trey Edmunds, Jonathan Williams

#5/maybe #6 WR - Choose 1 or 2
-Coleman, Carr, Tommylee, Josh Huff, Travin Dural, Paul Turner, Keith Kirkwood, Dan Arnold

#2/#3 TE - Choose 2
-Fleener, Hill, Hooman, Garrett Griffin, Deon Yelder (PS), Nate Wozniak, Alex Ellis

#5/maybe #6 Interior O-Line - Choose 1 or 2. Peat can play LT & Bushrod can play RT, so the OT position is fine.
-Cameron Tom, John Fullington, Landon Turner, Will Clapp (I'm really hoping he can win the job just to shut up the rantards), Cory Helms, Nate Theaker, Andrew Tiller, Maea Teuhema, Daronte Bouldin

#4 DT - Choose 1 Toss up at this point for me
-Mitchell Loewen, Taylor Stallworth, Woodrow Hamilton, DeVaroe Lawrence, Tashon Smallwood (still not 100% sure we signed him though)

#5/maybe #6 DE - Choose 1 or 2
-Kikaha, Muhammad, George Johnson, Henry Mondeaux, Alex Jenkins

#6/maybe #7 LB - Choose 1 or 2
-Stupar, Mauti, Jayrone Elliot, Bighill, Shayne Skov, Sae Tautu, Colton Jumper

#5/maybe #6 CB - Choose 1 or 2. We, most likely, keep Hardee for special teams imo.
-Hardee, Maulet, Natrell Jamerson, Kamrin Moore, DeVante Harris, Linden Stephens, Bradley Sylve

#4/maybe #5 Safety - Choose 1 or 2. We, most likely, keep Banjo for special teams imo.
-Banjo, Natrell Jamerson, Kamrin Moore, Rickey Jefferson, Mykkele Thompson, JT Gray

I picked one extra because I think Okafor will start on PUP or IR-R

I think Coleman will be #5 and Tommylee will be #6 but will make the roster as the kickoff returner.

I Don't know I think he had a good year last year and filled the Nickle/Dime role well. He may contend with PRob for the nickle role. He was still only a year removed from that gruesome concussion the year before.
