I'm not buying the Carr pff numbers mean much of anything. But Ruiz, your job is to block the dude in front of you.

Idk how dumbass 1 and 2 thought it would be a good idea to put penning next to ruiz.

Ruiz is average at best.

Why would you link nola.com paywalling content that isn’t theirs instead of PFF?

If you ask NOF and Locked on Saints…….Ruiz is good lol

I commented on a Locked on video saying that he was horrendous…..but of course he never answered it lol. I do like Ross Jackson though, he does a pretty good job (a little too positive sometimes though lol)

Typical biased Carr nut hugger.

It really is a chicken or the egg type of question. Sure there is a possibility that they both suck (Carr & O-line). But at the same time, if the oline is trash, how legit are any statistics (PFF number being the statistic here) when you have a QB with some obvious weaknesses, primarily his mobility.

they were running the most basic of plays. nothing was overly schemed what so ever. its really not anything to get worked up on. Carr played good ball down the stretch. I can't see Carr getting worse under kubiak.

the flip side of vanilla offense and vanilla defense is that guys like Penning and Ruiz were only asked to block the guy in front of them and failed. No stunts, no blitzes, just one on one blocking. No scheme is going to magically fix the fact that we have two offensive lineman that can not hold up one on one.

And you’re 100% right. Part of me wants to root for Carr because I know we’re stuck with him and he’s not a bad guy. But every time I see his goofy arse taking snaps in a Saints uniform I just get pissed off

We seem to be stuck with Loomis and Carr for the next two years but I still hope for more than I expect.. And I think you will see everyone pissed if they are both around in year three. In the meantime its football season everyone is undefeated and I have bourbon to drink and tv's to smash!

Not that I'm arguing that Penning has a good day because he most certainly did not.

However (especially in regards to Ruiz),

There is way too much bias cooked into PFF ratings to take them too seriously. People treat them like they are scripture, but it tries to boil football, especially blocking and tackling, down to mathematics and it just doesn't work that way. Plus, when you listen to their podcasts, you realize that they guys who wrote the formula that spits out the ratings have the same shortcomings of all national analysts. Too much assumption based off of prior season performance and not enough research due to too much data to study. They don't see enough of any one team to be able to give a proper review. That's where the bias comes in. They make up for their shortcomings by attaching frog DNA to the strands found in the amber.

The great philosopher, Jim Mora, once said, "You think you know but you don't know and you never will." It was the truest thing he ever said in a press conference rant. PFF just doesn't have enough information to be able to give a full analysis of the situation, and even less if they try to make it a math problem. That's how you get guys like NOF and Locked In give a different take on Ruiz than PFF. Those guys see these players much more and have more to go on to give their takes, not just 3 offensive series in a preseason game.
