2017 really was a special season for punters in the NFL, but what Thomas Morstead accomplished this year really set the bar. He punted 60 times over the course of the season, with 28 of those punts landing inside the opposing team’s 20-yard line. The Saints’ defensive playmakers and running backs have understandably received a lot of praise this year, but the success of their punting unit has been important for the Saints’ return to the postseason too.

oh yea and Cam is all pro too.

PFF Grade: 95.4
Elite Stat: Jordan ranked eighth among edge defenders in total pressures with 74 in 2017.
Cameron Jordan may be one of the league’s most underrated players and also may be only getting better as the seasons go by. There were players on the edge with more pressures than Jordan managed this season, as his 74 total pressures ranked eighth, nine pressures short of Von Miller at the top of the list. Jordan added 10 batted passes to his stat line, leading the league for passes deflected at the line of scrimmage. He, of course, is also more than just an edge rusher, and his 91.7 run-defense grade is the third-best mark among edge defenders in the league this year. He has been the most dominant force on a much-improved Saints defense and solidified his status as one of the most dominant defenders in the league, even if he rarely gets mentioned alongside the likes of Von Miller and Khalil Mack.

I still can't believe PFF put White & Hunt over Lattimore & Kamara at the last minute.

If every play is graded, I could see Lattimore winning & losing some points after battling Julio & Evans.

But Kamara had a lead over Hunt going into the last game and had 234 all-purpose yards & 2 TDs, while Hunt had 1 carry for 35 yards, albeit it was a stat-stuffer to win the rushing title.

this is punting, this isn't difficult shite.

he's 8th in avg.
he's 6th in net.

he's not in any way even a pro bowl caliber punter yet he's paid the primo of everybody.

i mean we're talking 1.5 yards per punt of being run of the mill freaking average. crown his arse... oh man.

the funniest part.

PFF highlights his 28 punts inside the opponents 20.

Well evidently espn, disagrees, has him stuck at 26, as well as there is a legit 20 other punters with more punts inside the 20 than what thomas morestead has. I know morestead doesn't have quite the volume of punts as a lot of guys as well but this was quite NOT the stat to throw out there like its some sort of fricking great accomplishment to make him all mr. pfffffff punter. fricking joke.

and how many of his punts were shorter than they could have been so he could down the other team inside the 20

can you apply this logic to the other 31 punters in the league as well.... morestead punts inside the 20 aren't some great feat like it pretended to be.

Do they only track inside the 20?

I would like to know inside 10 and 5 as well.

20 yards seems pretty easy for a NFL kicker to be able to nail but really pinning teams should be measured.

Not really, when his volume to downed inside the 20 is drastically higher.

he does have a high % inside the 20. So do other punters. You know his % inside the 20 also coincides to having a pretty damn good offense that generally moves the ball down the field a bit than not. There's many ways to skin the cat here. Morestead is a very good punter. It's just not something that i care to splurge top money for.

1. What FA did the Saints miss out on bc Morstead got too much money and we couldn't afford the FA?

2. It's cute 'n all, your pet-peeve with Morestead's salary, but seriously, shouldn't the contracts/wasted or dead money for Byrd, Browner, Ellerbee, Gallette, Graham etc garner equal or more outrage? I mean, if you are railing against contract vs value/production...

3. What's the big deal anyway? The Saints have contracts currently with 53 guys they think can win the Super Bowl with by dividing up $167 million. If they win another Lombardi trophy, does it matter if Kamara got a million, Brees got $24M, and Morstead got 3.6M?
