My friend from Montclair, Mike Norman, and his two boys, Ben and Josh, can't get over how they were treated as Giants fans in New Orleans a couple of weeks ago.

They were dressed in their Giants' gear. Big game. Lots at stake. And they're not shy -- they cheered openly for their team (though there wasn't much to cheer about in the Saints' rout of the G-men). And over and over again, fans in the stands and on the street were beyond charitable to them. "They all kept saying, 'Thanks for coming to New Orleans,' '' Mike said.

I went to the Giants-Cardinals game a few weeks ago at The Meadowlands. A large portion of Giants fans are complete garbage and Jersey trash. I was sitting 17 rows from the field and had 2 fights break out a few rows up between Giants fans. They are all angry angry people.

A friend of mine used to live/work in Pennsylvania close to both New York and Philly. He told me to never, never, never, never, go to either of these teams games without wearing one of the home team colors! It was just brutal!!

I went to the game in Philly wearing Saints gear and the fans were fine.

It's all about how you act. I was even standing up and cheering on the Saints TD's and nobody said anything to me.

If you talk football with your neighbor, show an appreciation for their city, and have a few beers I am convinced that you can cheer how you want in America. You probably have to work a lot harder making allies around you in places like Oakland, Philly, Bmore - but it can be done.

The fact that we made allies in Miami prevented us from getting kicked out when the Saints made their run. The Dolphins fans sitting behind us had our back and told the stadium cops that were were "cool as shite" and did nothing to get kicked out of our seats. Just pissy Dolphins fans sitting a few rows in front of us trying to get "even". shite like that happens but you can take preemptive steps to help you out.

I was at both the Jets and Giants games. Fans from both clubs were great football fans. Had some good football talk. Both fans talked about how much they enjoyed their time in New Orleans and how they circled NO as the road game to go to.

There are a few reasons why NYC and NOLA have some bonds. Both cities were smashed by disasters (9/11 and Katrina); both cities have proud and prosperous Sicilian - American populations; both cities are major ports; YA Tittle, Eli Manning, Rusty Staub and Ron Swoboda all have NYC/NOLA connections.

And finally . . . the Noo Awlins and the Brooklyn accents are similar !

at the NYG game, me and a few buddies made friends with a couple of Giants fans
we made a deal that they would buy us a beer for all of Brees' td's and we would buy them one for eli's......

Agreed. I tell my friends that a NOLA accent is like Brooklyn shoved through Savannah on FastFWD.

Take 10 random people from outside the South/Louisiana and have them watch a vid or listen to Buddy D.... I guarantee 8 of them would say he was from New York.

I am constantly told that I sound as though I am from New York - not New Orleans.
