There are no reports of seeing him walk on the Mississippi River just yet, though

I think he put in enough time/effort into rebuilding New Orleans that he can use it for negotiation purposes.
What does that have to do with anything?
IMHO, him eating up more cap money so that he can put more into rebuilding playgrounds or playing fields isn't cost effective for the Saints and probably not for the city.

Yeah I can see that. Sometimes I wish I could sit in on these negotiations, because I am just so shitty at negotiating.
I would enjoy this too. Mainly because I just cant grasp what exactly they are talking about after its been discussed mutiple times.
Drew: So are we at $23 mill a year yet?
Benson/Loomis: Nope we like $19
Drew:Welp, smells ya later guys
They have to hit a spot where there just isnt anything left to talk about if one side isnt willing to budge.

Benson told him recently that he should take the money at 20 mill and have good players around him. Told him to look at the example of Farve and Peyton after they held out for more, while having nobody of value to play with. Also, that the city loves him and he is hurting his legacy.
this situation isnt looking favorable right now, but I heard it should work out before camp.

There's no negotiating - Loomis is a fricking boss and Knows Greedy Breesy will be skulking in for training camp after "settling" for the compromise of $20 mill per year.
You say that, but we have no idea how much his San Diego Franchise fiasco has shaped his view. Its such a unique situation.

It gives him more leverage with the fans.

Red Herring. Brees played last year with no long term deal.

Thats not the same as being franchised though.

Yeah you make way more money on a franchise tag.
Brees using that meaningless anecdote fools lots of people though so good for him.

Or he thought they would reward him for playing out his contract when so many of his peers just say frick this, pay me.

I find it interesting that Brees keeps referring to the San Diego fiasco and his injury. In hindsight, it turned out to be the best thing that ever happened to him professionally.

I would hate it if we tagged Drew, he got hurt, we traded him, and he went on to resurrect another franchise and bring them to the Superbowl while consistently being in the conversation as top QB and offensive performer in the league.

I've read that we offered him shite in terms of guaranteed $. I think the perfect compromise is simply offering 5/$90m, fully guaranteed. We live and die by Brees anyway, and we're fricked if he gets a career ending injury whether he has a large guaranteed deal or is franchised (though obviously recovery would be easier in the latter situation). The $18m/yr instead of $21m/yr or so frees up some space for the likes of Jimmy Graham.

Do you agree with this?
Wanting to maximize your earnings has ZERO to do with whether you care about the city you play for or not.
It's ridiculous to even connect the 2.
