This is starting to look Ike Loomis and Payton don't have the relationship we all thought

I disagree, Payton even has a clause in his contract that IF Loomis vacates his GM position or gets fired then Payton has the right to walk away. You don't put that kind of clause in your contract for somebody unless you have a great freaking relationship with them.

As other posters mentioned, the absolute only reason we should settle for anything less than one 1st is if for some reason Payton wants out and we are eventually planning to release him so we would just take a 2nd round pick instead of getting nothing in return, but I doubt it. And the only reason I could possibly see for Payton to want to leave is if Loomis/Ireland told him that Johnsoh/Vitt/McMahon all had to go and Payton disagreed. All that being said I would still say that even though Payton does not owe New Orleans anything, NOLA/Loomis/Benson all gave Payton full support when the whole BountyGate came up and all pretty much swept the vicodin thing under the rug as much as possible so I do not see any reason for Payton to want to leave.

I personally don't think we should get rid of Payton unless it's for compensation similar to what Gruden got which was (2)1st (2)2nds and $8M cash. There are too many teams looking for a coach, and Payton's name has been "linked" to every single one of them so it would be terrible negotiating on Loomis' part to only get a 2nd

Brees said he doesn't know all the circumstances at play with Payton's future. But knows they have a good relationship

I didn't remember the NFL rejecting it, but even still he wanted that clause in his contract so the sentiment is still the same

That is POSSIBLE, but it is also possible that Ian Rappaport is making stuff up......

You really do not know which is true.

He is not a saints insider. Post the others... I'll bet they are citing his BS.

or we get equal production at half the cost from another coach who allows the power split that the front office may be seeking.

Like the rest of the crap being leaked this season, I don't believe it. Throwing shite and hoping it sticks.

If Payton is seeking to leave them frick him. He built this organization to what it is now you ride it out instead of trying to jump off the sinking ship.

The Saints won't find a better coach than Payton but it doesn't matter. This roster is garbage and will be no better than a 7-8 win team again next season. It's time for a change. You can see it in Sean's face, he knows it and wants out.
