Ah yes average them out and try to make it sound like he had low numbers

7.5 sacks all season is what nets guys $13mm

Thank God for the Saints. Keeping unhealthy players paid and fed during their medical hardships.

New Saints DE Chase Young, who signed his one-year, $13 million deal with New Orleans today, is undergoing a neck procedure that is expected to sideline him into training camp, per sources. The expectation is that he will return in time for the season. Teams were aware of his neck issue, and the Saints were comfortable moving ahead with it.

The Saints have injury protections in Chase Young’s contract that offer some cover if he misses time, I’m told. He’s expected to be ready for the season, so the hope is those never come into play.

Curious on what procedure is. Necks are no joke. If it’s fusion limited mobility post-surgery. Hope it’s a quick recovery

After single-level ACDF, 80% of professional athletes were able to return to sport at approximately 9 months. The study findings will help athletes, physicians, and teams better predict outcome after ACDF surgery.

I don’t see it being a fusion with this timetable. I’ll guess a laminectomy

Fusions aren’t a big deal either depending on the level, which in his case is going to be lower and not as serious given he played all last season

I'm thinking the Saints need to add 20 handicapped parking spaces for the influx of new FA's

The Saints took a risk on Brees and seemingly ever since operate as if they are smarter than the league when it comes to dealing with players with injury histories. The reality is Brees wasn’t that big of a risk because the Saints were so bad it didn’t really matter if it didn’t work out.

But it seems pretty on-brand to announce a noteworthy signing that gets the fanbase somewhat excited in an otherwise uneventful FA period…only to literally the next day announce “oh, and he has a significant injury from which we hope he will be recovered by the beginning of the season…maybe”.

Now we find out the real reason he signed with the Saints. He had limited options

Eh...if he flops and we suck again it finally means DA is gone. If he's good and we win then great. Win/Win

Of course something happened behind the scenes happens with injuries and his contract. Neck surgery is either everything is good to go, or it’s not going to be the same.

If you read the history on Bree’s, he could barely throw the ball. It was a huge gamble. This board is full of idiots.

they really aren't. Mickey has a Disney name, and he should go there since it's all smiles and ice cream.

I can't stand that son of a bitch.

The shoulder surgery he had isn’t anywhere close to having neck surgery. Drew had a completely torn labrum and partially torn rotator cuff, (I’m not sure he had a torn bicep tendon) same surgery I had 4 years later after Drew’s surgery. I’m damn sure not in the universe of being a professional athlete, and these procedures keep getting better but comparing a shoulder surgery VS neck surgery isn’t the same.

1. You have no idea what surgery he’ll be undergoing for his neck. None.
2. Throwing shoulder surgery for a QB is pretty damn serious
3. You aren’t an athlete or doctor and have no frame of reference for any of what you’re talking about

And if it didn’t work out? The Saints go from being one of the worst teams in the league with a home city in shambles to…continuing to be one of the worst teams in the league with its home city in shambles.

It’s not like the Saints were a consistent playoff team dumping a great QB with potentially a few years left in his prime. They were a franchise with ONE playoff win in nearly 40 years who had an uncertain fanbase. It wasn’t a huge risk because the consequences of it not working out relative to the state of the franchise weren’t that big.

I said I wasn’t an athlete, but I’ve had the same surgery, plus the torn bicep tendon I mentioned. When it comes to going under the knife for that, I do have a little reference. Maybe once you get out of that sling after two months, it might feel like you want be able to throw a ball again. That feeling didn’t last long for me, nor do I think it lasted long for Drew. Again, shoulder and neck surgery aren’t the same. It doesn’t take a doctor to understand that.

Danielle Hunter. Had neck surgery in 2020 and came back and had 7 sacks the next year. A down year for him, but you asked so I answered.

Just to clarify Hunter got neck surgery in October 2020- missed that whole season. Came back in 2021(basically a little less than a year later) and had 6 (not 7) sacks that year and like you said it was a down year.

Meanwhile we’re expecting Chase to have surgery, come back in 6 months and be productive the same year he had surgery? What exactly are the Saints expecting from this signing??
