Trevor Penning: 96.4 run-blocking grade in Week 1 of the preseason 1st among all players

This man is elite in the run. Gotta improve the pass protection but I think we got a great one. Especially considering he is still pretty raw.

What’s the story behind people saying “Germans”. I always see it but never saw what the story is.

old TD way of saying the topic has already been covered in a number of threads.

stems from the movie Animal House.

Until his passblocking gets up to NFL standards, he is going to make the absolute best swing tackle that we have ever had.

Rick Leonard was PFF's rating among rookie OL the year we drafted him.

I know this is the Pound Penning (Pound on Penning?) thread, but lets relax for a second. From Geoff Schwartz, long time NFL lineman turned analyst:

Geoff Schwartz Twitter

quote:

Finished w/Penning film. No penalties from being over aggressive. Weird. ??. Anyways …
Run game was good as expected.
Pass pro struggled in 3 specific reps.
He’s playing too fast. Doesn’t have a plan yet. When he takes a more controlled pass set and punches he’s fine.

quote:

The 3 pass pro reps

-overset, spin by DE
-opened to run the DE around a half yard too soon. DE was at 9.5 to the QB. Also needed more meaningful contact w/punch
-overset on the E/T. E had straight shot to QB

Correctable when things so slow down and has a plan.

This guy does a decent job of breaking it all down - especially the reps where he was beat. The kid will be special.

Put that man at guard and let him maul people. His speed would be great when pulling too

He needs to learn a little finesse if he wants to be great in pass protection playing tackle
